From the minute my husband and I met with Dory Azar we knew he was the right architect for us. We had been reviewing several different architects at that time as we wanted a specific style and design for our new custom home. We wanted the designer to just “get us” and felt like everyone was designing houses with the “same design” with just a few changes here and there, but that isn’t our style. We had a design in mind and were looking for someone that could take that and make it into a reality. A prairie style home with a contemporary twist, but timeless as well. It didn’t take Dory long to process our ideas, put them to paper and create the home we had envisioned & talked about for many years. He listened carefully to what we were looking for, was cooperative as we made revisions (no matter how small) and delivered better than we hoped. He's very detail oriented and thought of angles and sight-lines that the average person would not have thought about. His style and creativity is unlike anyone in our area and that places him a cut above the rest in our opinion. We are thrilled with our home and can truly say that we would not change a thing. Dory was a pleasure to work with! He gave us some innovative suggestions yet yielded to our stubbornly conservative views now and then, to come up with the best of both worlds in our final plans. He gently guided us towards lower cost alternatives when needed and put together some very detailed drawings that are on their way for permits. His disposition was approachable, professional, and teeming with creative energy to help us come up with ideas that we just would never have come up with on our own! AND, he replies to emails! Wow, what a bonus to actually be kept in the loop with professionalism and humour. His skills, disposition, and creativity, are worth the cost. Best advice - keep an open mind, and you can trust this architect to get you your dream design! Would highly recommend!

Initially, we worked on a house design of our own and we brought our ideas to a local custom builder who introduced us to Dory. We met with Dory and shared our ideas with him. Dory took our ideas and came up with a modern design that we love. We are absolutely delighted with the overall aesthetic and the realization of our dreams and ideas in our beautiful new home. The house has modern feel with simple clean lines both inside and out.

After moving into our new Lake Erie house in 2013 we realized that we needed a sunroom to offset the strong winds and bugs that sometimes make lakefront living a problem in the summer months. Dory was recommended to us by the structural engineer who was involved in the original house construction, and we called and interviewed him and one other designer before settling on Dory to do the addition. What we liked about Dory was the passion and enthusiasm that he brought to the conversation, and the fact that he LISTENED to us carefully, because his suggestions on changes to our ideas were well thought out and respectful of our original objectives. The design process went smoothly and he provided a wonderful 3 dimensional model and renderings that made the addition come to life. This did much to facilitate the decision making process and also made it easier for the approving authorities- Town of Amherstburg and Essex Region Conservation Authority-to render their decisions. Dory was able to get all his work done on time and within the budget provided and we now have a new favourite room that we spend most of our free time in, reading and watching the freighters and sail boats go by. If we had known about Dory beforehand we would have gladly hired him for our original dwelling and would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who is looking to have a house built in the area.

My Husband and I contracted Dory Azar Architect for the design of our Dream Home. The dedication and attention to detail that was demonstrated to us was the deciding factor in our choice. Every request that we made, as well as, small changes that were recommended to us, were methodically planned out, resulting in a home that is the perfect representation of our needs for the present, as well as the future!! Our kitchen is a great example. Dory suggested a floating island instead of the typical U-shape, and opened up not only the flow, but the increased cabinet space! We have had so many compliments on the kitchen layout (as well as all of the other little details) in our home! I would recommend Dory Azar Architect to anyone who is planning on building - not only their Dream Home, but commercial building as well!

This is an amazing architect. He built/designed my first house (which was very modern) and then I hired him again when I moved and designed an addition for my 2nd house (which was very traditional) . He is so patient, and really listens to the needs of the client. I find him an awesome "perfectionist" when it comes to design. He likes to make sure he "gets it right". It took us 1 year to get our addition design right (because my husband does not make decisions quickly) and Dory didn't mind at all. Now, we have a very old home and we wanted to preserve that look. However my first house was very modern and he was able to incorporate very trendy features. I like that Dory is able to adapt to the client needs (he is able to work with both a traditional style and a modern style) and make it come true on paper and then in real life! I trust Dory with any building project. It amazes me how many people in my town stop and tell us that our house is so beautiful and that the addition complements the rest of the house so well. All this to say, Dory did a great job! I would hire him again if I was building or renovating a home. He really understands how important living space is and before even putting pencil to paper, he asks all the right questions about how we live our life, how the children use the home, what our storage needs are, where will our entrance be in relation to where we park the car, where should the windows be in relation to dusk or dawn ect ect...Just excellent.

It was an absolute pleasure working with Dory. Dory's passion for architecture is evident in the way he communicates his design process and in his attention to detail in construction documentation. He takes great care in achieving positive results for each project. I have no doubt that Dory's future clients will receive superb architectural services and will likely have some fun in the process.
