Simply stated, working with Damir was an unbelievable experience. I bought my first home (in San Francisco) two years ago and was very eager to turn the backyard into a more usable and lush space. Being completely new to a project like this, I didn’t know where to start. I found Damir and his work online and was hoping to be lucky enough that he’d want to take on my project. We needed a hardscape, pool, screening, planting and outdoor lighting design for our newly acquired Palm Springs property. As we embarked on the project we started to feel overwhelmed & sought guidance and master plan from DHD design. Their concepts were strong, functioning and clearly articulated by presenting us with multiple concepts, walking us through the rendered drawings and thorough walk through benefits and implications of each. The process was an integral part of educating us on pros/cons of using different materials, selecting plans indigenous to the Palm Springs climate and region, implications of selecting different pool materials, helping us visualize how we would engage with the outdoor space etc. They also spent quite a bit of time to understand what our goals are for the property which helped the communication process. Benefits for engaging DHD professionals more than paid for itself. Best project decision we made. Highly recommend.

Damir is the consummate landscape design professional. He is wonderful to work with: creative, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. We appreciated his savvy approach to landscape design – providing three different planting plans that were accompanied with images in planting palettes. He listened to our desires and incorporated the elements that we liked from 2 of the 3 designs. Receiving the final design and corresponding planting palette was instrumental for our landscape contractor to be able to carry out Damir’s vision. We also appreciated that Damir is a lecturer at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design. His educational approach dovetailed well with our desire to learn and understand how certain plants work best in particular locations and more specifically, how they relate to the existing plants and trees we wanted to keep as part of the new plan. dhd damir hurdich design is a fantastic boutique landscape design firm based in San Carlos, California. Damir Hurdich has been a pleasure to work with. Our project was probably on the smaller side for him, but he applied his methodology to our project and created 3 options for us to choose from on a full landscape redesign for the front of our home and part of our side yard. My wife and I are not the most creative people, but we felt truly heard with Damir incorporating our preferences and ideas into each of the designs. Damir's small team is also great, including Oscar who spent time with us on Zoom calls. dhd damir hurdich design is not inexpensive, but I feel that I received full value having a UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design lecturer work on landscape designs for my property. We are still working with contractors on implementing the design we selected, but Damir has remained involved and helpful. I highly recommend Damir. Not only is he a fantastic landscape architect, but he is also a genuinely nice guy.

We worked with Damir a few years ago to completely redo our backyard. He took the time to get to know our style and gave us multiple options to choose from. We were very happy with the way the redesign transformed the appearance of our backyard. He was even kind enough to a do quick consult on a pillow cover years later.

The iterative collaboration in the design phase was very enjoyable. The process was laid out clearly ahead of time and made honing in on a vision very easy. The use of 3D modeling was also immensely helpful to envision the final landscape. During implementation, it was extremely helpful to have Damir also involved in communications with the contractors and regular on-site meetings. In this phase, the design proved to be flexible enough to allow for creative updates that improved the outcome in the field over the already excellent design plan.

We are working with Damir on landscaping our recently totally remodeled home. When we first met Damir my wife and I both enjoyed discussing our project with him. He has a great personality and has a great eye for design. I think we both felt very comfortable with his interpretation of our design ideas. He also helped us to find a contractor that has been very easy to work with. Currently, we are in middle of construction and we are looking forward to the final product. We think we will have a great landscape design that will complement our modern style house. He has a great feel for modern design. There is still a little bit of work to do yet, but it has been exciting to work with Damir so far.

Damir is the best landscape architect I have worked with. I was so impressed by his work that I hired him even before I hired my architect or did demolition for the new construction project! The project took a little over 2 years to complete. Throughout the process, Damir was incredibly patient and gave me great advice in terms of design choices. His design was really thoughtful and tailored to the site situations and the architecture style. I kind of envy the project for which he earned his 2020 ASLA Merit Award, but I'm totally satisfied with how my own project turned out!

My wife and I have worked with a number of different design professionals over the years and Damir is the best we’ve worked with. He’s creative, smart, and practical. His designs are beautiful, and elegant, and they work in practice. I actually don’t think of him as a just landscape designer, but as a designer in the broadest sense. At the risk of overstatement, he’s not a designer, but the Designer. Not a god, but the God.

We've worked with Damir for 4 year as we've worked through our landscape design for the front and backyard. Damir has impeccable taste, an amazing design aesthetic, and is wonderful to work with. He did an amazing job guiding us on the modern, minimalist landscape design for the front yard...we get compliments on the planting of grasses, trees, pavers, and hedges all the time. Even strangers walking down the street! I particularly like how Damir doesn't replicate cookie cutter designs but really gets into your needs and how you'll use the space. His designs reflect that understanding. He knew that in the backyard (currently being completed) we wanted a dramatic space that would be great for entertaining. We hold family gatherings under the trees and often even have a dance floor for special occasions. Damir designed the whole backyard with a fire pit, beautiful trees, dense privacy hedges, and the best, a striking tile patio that is so functional and elegant. I can't wait to entertain my family and friends for years to come.

Damir did understand well what was right for us and the remodel of our pool is a success. I would work with him again without doubt.

Damir has led us through this scary process like a pro. This is hopefully our forever home and we want to make sure whatever we do does this home justice in this neighborhood but fits budget. We have worked with Damir for all of our landscaping, which covers a variety of items such as the driveway, walkway, pool, all decks, planting, outdoor kitchen and so on. We love his attention to detail and the push for the highest quality, while still keeping our budget and concerns in mind (for example, low maintenance planting or decking materials). His flexibility with meetings, onsite, at his office, or online, and working directly with the contractors to ensure good quality workmanship was extremely useful given our busy schedules. My wife and I worked with Damir for our outdoor landscaping. The project involves everything outside of the house, from the front driveway, to the series of wooden decks, to all the plants throughout our property, and to other amenities such as the outdoor kitchen, fire pits, fountains. And of course, a pool. We didn't know what to expect at the beginning, but it turns out working with Damir has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experience. Our entire house is very modern, and Damir designed everything outside of the house to complement the house, yet at the same time draws us to go outside. Damir is creative. The took some time to form his vision based on our preferences and our lifestyle, but then he patiently developed his vision into plans along with us. His design is stunning, and we only finally start to experience it now that most of the work is done. Visitors to our house will first experience Damir's artistry, and everyone will keep telling us how incredible the design is. Damir's attention to details is intense. We do care a lot about how things look, but Damir just brings things to another level. Often he's the one who's unhappy with the work, and will not stop until it's done right. For example, the bluestones we got had bush-hammered finish, and Damir saw the bush-hammer pattern had a "machined" because the texture didn't look hand made. He got the vendor to send people out to refinish the surface for free. People often tell us our landscaping looks perfect - they don't know how much work went into it to get to that level of perfection. Damir is fun to work with. Every choice he makes is based on some thoughtful consideration. For example, he decided to build our pool half above ground, so that the concrete coping happens to be of sitting height from the ground. We didn't fully realize at the time, but when we have a party now everyone is sitting on the concrete coping. There are just too many stories about working with Damir. Our project is pretty complex and took a long time to finish. But Damir made the whole experience so rewarding, that we almost feel it ended too quickly.

Damir is a very talented landscape architect. He's creative, accommodating and most importantly easy to work with. Absolutely will work with him again in any future projects.

Damir did a great job of providing us with ideas that fit what we suggested. He carefully and respectfully talked us out of ideas that we didn’t yet realize wouldn’t fit. He provided us with multiple designs oriented so that sun and shade all matched our yard, a beautiful selection of plants that matched our geography. The landscaper contractor who implemented the plan was also thrilled to work with Damir and was very excited about the use native plants. Damir's thoughtful design transformed my deeply shaded city garden into a tranquil space visually unified by a cedar retaining wall/bench, acorus plants and sculptural boxwood globes. Working around the existing fence, hardscape and fountain, he ingeniously designed three beautiful options from which to choose and amended my favorite one. The result includes an updated fountain, cedar benches covering an old retaining wall, lighting and low maintenance plantings. He created visual interest and a feeling of openness in a tight space bordered by the house and a 10' fence. His design considered the interior sight lines, so that the garden is an extension of the the house and creates wonderful views at all hours. Damir was a absolute delight to work with. He turned around all designs quickly. He made a huge difference in helping me manage the contractor, ensuring the design was built as planned and with attention to high quality finishes. He truly cared that everything was completed on time, according to specifications and within my budget. His garden design universally receives rave reviews from everyone who visits the house. The attached snapshots don't do it justice. They were taken a year ago before everything grew in. He will be designing my front garden shortly. I can't wait to see how he transforms it. DhD is simply the best! Frankly, my only concerns in writing this review are that (1) DhD will get too busy because the work is SO good or (2) I am now biased because through the process of working together on two projects, Damir has become a dear friend. He is great fun to work with and he is accurate and timely. DhD works well with other professionals and is sensitive to their needs in the project while providing support and sound advice to the client. Moreover, I LOVE Damir's sense of design. He deftly combines clean, modern lines with the unpredictability and beauty of natural landscape. DhD can successfully work with a range of budgets. And Damir is practical and seeks to work with the landscape and the building design to improve the outcome such that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I have been working with Damir for over two years on an extensive and complicated deck remodel. He is professional, friendly and always a pleasure to work with.
