The House Doctor

My home remodel has been a two year work-in-progress and completion has taken much longer than anticipated. My general contractor seemed to lose interest as we worked our way through the punch list. I finally started looking for answers elsewhere and a painter that I had used on an earlier project recommended "the House Doctor". My expectations were modest in light of my recent experience, so I was very surprised when my luck began to change with my first phone call. It was promptly answered by a real person who was knowledgeable about the services available. I was quickly put in touch with the man of the hour, Charlie Angell. Within a day we met at my house and I at first only expected his crew would do the required painting. As we talked and I told him of the other tasks that needed to be completed, he said, "we can do that." And he did; on time, right the first time, and reasonably priced. He continues to amaze me, as he has handled any situation I have put before him in an expert manner. The term handyman could be used to describe his skills, but that would be like calling Edison an electrician.

Charlie and his team of professionals have been great. I went through a lot of workers who did not do the jobs I requested with the professionalism and courtesy that I found with The House Doctor. They show up when they say they will, complete tasks in a professional manner, answer any questions you may have, and clean up after the job is completed. Charlie Angell has always been available to oversee and insure everything is done to my satisfaction. He has completed 4 projects for me in the last year and he will be the only one I call when I am ready to move forward on my kitchen remodel.

Charlie's crew showed up every day worked incredibly hard and did a great job. They cleaned up every day. They knew just about how long the job would take. Carpenter work matched our house and they even made some changes to help the final job last longer. Charlie kept us in the loop during the job and made sure we were satisfied with the work. We would recommend Charlie to anyone.

He came to the house three times to provide an estimate for building a screened addition on the back of the house, as well as an outbuilding and other smaller jobs. On one trip, he brought someone who was to make drawings for permits and construction. Weeks passed with no word. I contacted both of them and never heard back from either. Months were wasted.

I have been using Charlie and his team of excellent professionals since I moved to Savannah in 1997. Through the years he has really made a difference in the way my house looks, both inside and out. Sometimes his time estimates are a bit off, but the work is high quality. I will continue to use his services and would recommend him to others seeking to remedy their house problems or wanting to make improvements.

Just like one goes to a medical doctor when sick, one MUST go to the House Doctor when either a) your house is sick or b) you are sick of being taken advantage of by sleazy contractors. Charlie Angell and his team not only have bedside manner, but an extreme attention to detail and passion for your project. Charlie came into our lives just as despair had set in. We moved into a historic home, built in 1854, and eight days later a pipe burst in our second floor kitchen. The insurance company pushed a local contractor in town who subsequently performed shoddy work and demanded payment for the incomplete project. Through a trusted recommendation Charlie Angell and the House Doctor team swooped into our lives like a beacon of hope. Charlie came on a weekday afternoon to assess the issues and subsequently the lack of TLC our house had received for the past decade. Within two-months the team had transformed our house, inside and out. Externally everything was properly sealed, waterproofed, and structurally sound. Inside our house had become a home with economical and Pinterest-worthy improvements. The House Doctor team worked quickly, efficiently, and honestly. What I appreciated most about Charlie Angell was his integrity. During our initial consultation Charlie outlined what needed to be done and drafted an accurate cost proposal for our approval before any work was begun. If an unforeseen issue arose, Charlie not only made sure the customer understood the issue, but was 100% upfront if it was something that needed to be dealt with immediately or if it was something the homeowner could safely put off for the time being. And as always, he never began fixing the unexpected issue or homeowner requested alternation until he had emailed over an updated cost proposal for the customer’s approval. Charlie is an effective communicator and always responded to inquiries, whether by phone or email, quickly. He surrounded himself with workers who are equally as skilled and ethical. It was our pleasure and good fortune to have worked with the House Doctor and we look forward to our next project together.

I have been a practicing Interior Designer for 34 years and have had the opportunity to work with many Contractors. The House Doctor receives high marks from me! Charlie Angell has a team of tradespeople that meet on site at the beginning of the job so that the scope of work is clear. His bid is clear and specific. His team arrives when promised, works to completion, and leaves a clean job site. Without exception, their work is excellent. I think so much of The House Doctor, that I have contracted them for personal work as well. No job is without "issues," but if any occur, Charlie works to correct them to the client's satisfaction - all in timely fashion. I can think of few professionals in this field that work to this level of excellence.
