Upsidedowndesign is a Yorkshire based interior design business owned and managed by Carole Whitby. From a single room makeover to a whole house refurb, the team will listen carefully to your requirements. Last year's addition of a retail design space on Bootham in York now enables clients to find inspiration whilst discussing projects. Whether you are working, sleeping or just busy living, we can help create the perfect space for you. From a straightforward makeover in preparation for sale, to a complete overhaul of your tumbledown ruin, we would love to be involved in your project. As no two projects are exactly the same, we tailor make our service depending on your needs and budget. We offer a free initial consultation so you can be sure that you are hiring the right team. We are of the opinion that bigger is not always better and that less is, in fact, usually more. The home of your dreams needn't cost a fortune. Our experience in sourcing and project management will avoid costly mistakes, leaving more funds for the nicer things in life. For the duration of your project, our skilled team will deliver the highest quality of workmanship, always remembering that they are guests in your home.

Carole was very helpful from the start. The shop has a good selection of fabrics and she helped me be braver with colour than I would have been. She managed the project making the whole process very easy for me. Everyones work was to a high standard. I would use them again and would be very happy to recommend this business

Everyone imo needs Carole & her amazing team at Upside Down. We were struggling to find our style and personality in our home. Upside down went over and above to help us really nail what we wanted across various projects. Clear, precise budgeting with flair and imagination from ideas generation to finished product was exemplary. Special mention to the team from designers to contractors - absolutely fabulous. Carole has worked tirelessly to transform our Victorian house into a gorgeous home that totally meets our practical needs - from sourcing a real oak tree to make my desk and 5 different tables right down to dealing with the rubbish! A joy to work with Carole and her team.

I have loved working with Carole and all her team. They are all so positive, professional and do an amazing job! We moved into our 1930s house 3 years ago and Carole has worked her magic throughout the house including new bedrooms, dressing room, staircase , front doors and hallway and new reception rooms. I love the fact that she is always so creative yet always practical and no request is too big or too small. Her knowledge and contacts are extensive and she can always stick to a budget. Quality of work is excellent.

Carole is very easy to talk to, she listens to what the customer wants and makes suggestions to help them achieve their perfect home. I find her designs are tailored to showcase every individual property whether it be a single room like the kitchen or bedroom or the whole house. I would definitely recommend upside down designs if you are wanting a friendly, professional service.

I have worked as a contractor for Carole for several years and can confirm that she is the most professional, attentive interior designer that I have ever had the pleasure to know. Her practical knowledge, linked with her flair for design and sourcing products and materials are second to none. Having worked on her own house, it has been a privilege to watch her in action, keeping tight control of the costs yet extracting maximum value from her team. She does this on all projects and her popularity attests to her highly regarded reputation.

the service that Carole provides is tailored to individual need, collaborative and affordable. Carole and her team are friendly totally professional and responsive. For me they took all of the stress out of a major refurbishment. Their skill set was impecable and I would have no hesitation in using Upside Downs services again and again. I can highly recommend Upside Down Design for any project small or large. Carole is delightful to work with and has great knowledge of renovation work and also eye for detail further down the line. We started our project with an almost bare shell and it is transformed into a beautiful home, thanks to Carole. After many visits to the kitchen designer & a pile of varying designs I was still unsure, Carole very reassuringly said it had to be what we wanted and it had to be right! Her advice was exactly what we needed.

We have worked with Carole on a number of projects. Her attention to detail and knowledge of all the different trades and styles is highly commendable. She has a fantastic up beat approach and this drives the various trades relating to each of her projects to achieve fantastic results for her clients.
