Brent Riechers Landscape (BRL LANDesign)

Working with Brent is an absolute pleasure! We hired BRL to landscape our jungle-like front yard in Bucktown, and Brent and his crew transformed it into a masterpiece-- so much so that we have received numerous unsolicited compliments from neighbors walking by on how great it looks. What we appreciate most is how hands-on of a project manager he is, and how no fine detail goes unnoticed. We simply adore our landscape designer Brent. He is such a genuine and lovely person and the designs he produces are stunning and are executed beautifully. I’m always amazed at the wealth of knowledge he has in his head, not just for plants, but also for architecture. He has a lovely and responsive team that works with him. Other than Brent, we usually talk with Felipe and he’s wonderful and so nice and knowledgeable. Brent designed, built and planted a wonderful herb wall for our back patio (incl. irrigation system). He finds the loveliest herbs and flowers for our wall and my family doesn’t have to buy fresh herbs all season. For the past few year he and his team come out each spring to do the planting for. Brent always selects the most luscious looking and succulent herbs and flowers. This year my daughter and I decided to plant our herb wall ourselves, thinking it’d be a fun project – it was so much work! It took three trips to the store and almost two days of planting and figuring things out like where to place the shade vs sun loving plants and making it visually pleasing. Whilst we had a lot of fun doing it, next year, we’re for sure asking Brent to do it for us again! Brent also designs and plants our front parkway for all seasons. He comes every fall to plant the juiciest and most vibrant tulip bulbs and every spring our parkway is this gorgeous sea of dense pink. Once the tulips are done he comes to replace them with gorgeous summer blooms that always last through fall. Around Thanksgiving he’s back with a stunning winter design of evergreens. So beautiful. We always have strangers stopping and photographing our parkway!

We started our conversation with Brent in February, knowing they would get very busy by the summer. We had an empty, pretty bad parkway to design and landscape. Our first meeting (and all subsequent meetings) with Brent and his team were fantastic. Not only do these folks know their stuff, they are fun and friendly to work with on a project. They are extremely busy so be patient if there is some lag time or if, like us, you order a very special timber that is customized for your project. We didn't have any idea of what we wanted and had a slightly flexible budget as well. The design talks were fun and Brent really listens to what you want or don't want and takes good notes! He presented some flowers and plants to us that we would not have otherwise chosen. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Remember: he is a landscape designer and architect, not just a landscaper so very creative and open to ideas. He isn't going to just show up and throw a bunch of flowers and plants in your space. He takes the time to create something just for you and does a beautiful job of it! Once everything was on site, it took 5-6 days, weather permitting, to finish our parkway. It is gorgeous! The entire installation time, folks were stopping by to ask about it. And even now, when I water it every day (sometimes twice a day Brent, I promise!) - people stop to ask me about it. I asked for empty space to plant annuals every year. (I hope I can figure out how to attach photos here.) You can say what you want about spending money on land we don't technically own in Chicago, but I love looking out everyday to see this beautiful piece of artwork that Brent and his team (shout out to Felipe and guys!) have created. We have been working with Brent and his staff for several years. During that time he has completely transformed our yard. Brent is an extremely creative designer, but is also willing to work with us to choose plantings that are our favorites. He has planted trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs, and annuals. Brent designs and plants decor for the holidays and year round interest. We would highly recommend Brent as a skilled landscape architect.

We actually started working with Brent in summer of 2014. After staring at the eyesore that was our previous courtyard for too long (see the before pic), we decided to call a few experts to see what their vision would be for our space. As a business professional, I immediately wanted to work with Brent and team. He is prompt, respectful, and my favorite quality of all...a perfectionist. Brent takes such care and pride in his work that when he passes by he'll make quick touch-ups when needed. Each season he transforms our courtyard into a work of art. So much so, that I often catch pedestrians stopping to admire and photograph his work. I would recommend Brent for anyone who is looking for a true designer.

Brent is great. I've written lengthy reviews for him in the past, but long story short he does a great job, very detailed, listens to you, and gets it done. Great crew that work with him as well. Check him out. More affordable but still the great quality design and service of the bigger shops.
