Whole house remodel “Down to the Studs” 1973 Ranch - Conversion from ~1800 sqft to ~2200 sqft conditioned space within original envelope, - Added covered front and back patio spaces - Owner had previous experience with remodels, but at smaller scale I moved to the PNW with zero local connections, bought a house that needed everything redone, and looked for a design build professional to work with me to make this house beautiful and function for now and the long-term future. I could not be more confident that I made the right choice in working with Chris Miller, Black Cat Design Build, LLC. Most importantly, Chris was trustworthy and willing to partner with me to make this big project happen. His design ideas made a big impact in key areas where I needed Subject Matter Expertise, and he listened and worked well with my own ideas on other design aspects (and oh I had ideas!). Any problems that arose were discussed and resolved clearly and fairly. In particular, it was important to me, as a woman, to work with someone who did not talk down to me. It was not “let me tell you about…”, but “how much do you know/want to know about….” I would not hesitate to recommend Chris and Black Cat.

If you do your research, you will find that we are fortunate to have in this area good design-build contractors. We interviewed no less than eight contractors, and Chris Miller, Black Cat Design Build, LLC stood out in talent, creative vision, and competency. This was a challenging project and we wanted to make sure that we had the right contractor and designer for the job. The whole house remodel was an extremely detailed oriented undertaking. We also recognized that we are very particular about the workmanship, so we needed to select a design-build firm that we believed would not compromise on the quality of the work delivered. Black Cat was our top choice. Chris stepped into the chaos we had inadvertently created, and from bedlam created a beautiful, expansive, extremely functional, and tranquil living space that we are enjoying immensely. We are deeply grateful for all of his work, and the wonderful team of craftsmen and workers that he brought in to work on our home. Beyond his creative brilliance and out-of-the-box dynamic problem-solving skills, these are the salient qualities Chris possesses that made this project and working with Black Cat Design Build, LLC a successful undertaking: Honest: In both his communication style and financially. I could have handed him my checkbook and not be concerned about any mishandling of funds. Accepts responsibility for mistakes. Never beats around the bush. Commitment: Hires the best people available for your project. Works to ensure everything is done correctly. He will be your best advocate. Timeliness: Returns your text and phone calls almost immediately. Respect and thoughtfulness: Leaves work area clean. Always makes the time to address clients' concerns. Let's you know when he will not be available. Sense of Humor: Remodeling is a long process. There will be challenges and obstacles along the way. Having a sense of humor can go a long way. Suggestion: This is a collaborative experience that requires an open and ongoing communication throughout the entire process. Always remember that this is a partnership, and you are very fortunate if Chris is available to be your creative partner.

Chris did a major makeover in my townhouse. Custom cherry cabinets were made for the kitchen and two of the bathrooms. Custom tile work was done in the bathrooms. New carpeting was installed upstairs and a new hardwood floor was installed downstairs. The workmanship and the workers who made and installed the cabinets and the tiles were excellent. The attention to detail was excellent. After each day’s work was finished the workman cleaned their spaces. There were a bumps in the road along the way, but Chris handled them well and the end result is that I love my house. Chris’s design background was a big help . If you want someone to do your project who is honest, straightforward, skilled and personable then Chris your man.

Chis Miller, Blackcat Design Build, was the general contractor on a large 6 month, full house remodel of our home. From then beginning we found Chris easy to work with as he took the time to discuss our needs and ‘wants’ to ensure the final design would result in a successful remodel. As homeowners, we were able to interact with Chris on site during all phases of construction and found him to be an ingenious craftsman! His experience in the Design Build field was evident as he helped us with the myriad of decisions that needed to be made that ultimately resulted in a beautiful living space. Chris is fair, honest and congenial. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any remodel job, large or small.

It is a great experience working with Chris Miller. He is exceptionally observant. He listened well and presented ideas and concepts to help us determine ways to modernize our small kitchen. Although we elected to postpone the project, we will not hesitate to contact Black Cat when we are ready to proceed.

The short version of our review is that we were very happy to have chosen Chris for our renovation project and would hire him again. In fact, we most likely will for another project. Chris offers being a designer, and a very good one, and a contractor, which makes the coordination of any project that much easier. We had a time difficulty articulating what we were looking for and Chris has a very good ability to figure it out, and offer you alternatives: carpets, paint color, tiles, etc... While no project ever gets to be executed exactly as planned, and this one was no exception, Chris is very good at keeping things on track and offering good alternatives. When it is all said and done, Chris main quality is his commitment to getting everything done to your satisfaction, even in the finest details. And he never balks at getting the job done himself if it is what it takes.

Back in August we had 3 renovation contractors come to our house. Chris Miller was one. Immediately we were impressed. He had details of the house history, did his research and came prepared. He gave us the best estimate and his personality was organized and competent. The scheduling was very close to his time estimate. Everyone that he brought in to work on the house was equally competent. Overall we are extremely pleased and plan on utilizing his services again. We highly recommend "Black Cat Design Build LLC"

Chris is an exceptional builder on many fronts. He's friendly, a fantastic communicator, thorough, has great attention to detail and has a diplomatic way of sharing his creative vision and ideas that may not have been a part of the original plan. He goes out of his way to provide a top quality result and has done a superb job hand-picking his stable of sub-contractors who are also very capable, conscientious and respectful of the project and property. Chris is a "can do" builder and on more than one occasion found a way to overcome obstacles that others simply did not believe could be accomplished and/or were unwilling to even attempt. In the end, our project exceeded our expectations and I take any opportunity I can to recommend Chris/Black Cat to others.

We have worked on many projects with Chris as the electrical contractor and are always very pleased with his attention to detail and the quality and craftsmanship of his crews work. We also like that he respects a schedule and sticks to it the best that he can. He is great at communicating and following up which makes it nice for all parties involved.

Chris Miller has been our design-build choice for over 12 years now. He has added a covered veranda to our home, remodeled our kitchen and just upgraded our master bath with a custom tile shower room and more. We chose him initially because he was the only designer we interviewed who really listened to us and designed what we asked for. Through all our projects over the years, he has consistently performed: communications are frequent, work is done on time and in budget, subs are excellent, work is top quality. Chris and his team were very professional. I had the concept and they had the plan. After explaining what I had in mind he sent me to the right places to look pick out items for the bathroom remodel. His subs were very experienced and I had confidence in their craftsmanship. He kept the project on schedule and upon completion we were left with a very slick and updated bathroom.

Chris Miller is Black Cat Designs. He designed our 1900s kitchen to bring it updated but kept it with the period of the house. He did the same with our upstairs bathroom. He also designed and is advising me how to direct contractors for a quilting studio that is nicely blending with our 100-year old home. I will always work with Chris.
