Big Chill

Our fall 2018 kitchen remodel was inspired by restoration of our late 40’s Western Holly gas range with a buttercup yellow top. One of the “Cooking with Color Series,” our Holly features the iconic porthole Pyrex windows, disappearing shelf, vanishing grill, flexa plate burner covers, and barbeque broyl oven. Her white and buttercup yellow enamel, shiny black porcelain burners, and mixed grey metals inspired color and finish choices for the kitchen. Our 80 year- old kitchen had no exhaust system, so I started my design and sourcing research on line to see if I could find a retro-look range hood. As luck would have it, I discovered the Big Chill appliance company out of Boulder Colorado. In their “Retro” collection, they offered exactly what I was looking for: a bungalow range hood with shiny chrome trim, and a dishwasher and microwave with chrome and black accents, all available in buttercup yellow. I ordered a paint sample and was thrilled to see that their buttercup yellow exactly matched our stove top. I produced a film of our remodel project recounting the project's BEFORE, DURING, and ultimately AFTER reveal of the retro-themed renovation featuring our restored late 40's Western Holly gas range and buttercup yellow appliances from Big Chill's "Retro Collection." The whimsical space is light, user-friendly, entirely efficient, and we love our new updated conveniences. The Big Chill range hood is a fantastic addition to our kitchen and features a powerful exhaust and over-stove lighting. The dishwasher is whisper quiet when running and cleans dishes very effectively. It replaced a non-functioning 3 decades old portable dishwasher that we re-purposed to store toilet paper. The microwave looks great in its custom-built cabinet. Remaining on our wish list to add to our Big Chill family, is the addition of a retro refrigerator. When our current unit bites the dust, we will order one in buttercup yellow. If we encountered questions about Big Chill products during our remodel. Big Chill customer service was readily available to field our enquiries.

I just received the Classic Big Chill Refrigerator and absolutely Love it! I was actually searching for a Vintage Stove and came across this Beautiful Refrigerator! Lisa was so helpful and sent me lots of pictures and was very helpful in choosing my color! I chose the white with brushed nickel since I have Blue Grey cabinets. It looks Amazing! I can’t wait to order the Classic stove to match! Thank you Big Chill!

Just received the Big Chill Classic refrigerator and the attention to detail is amazing. It truly is a piece of art. Customer service has been amazing. Love, love this forward thinking company with an eye for the past!

I am an architect and builder and just finished a kitchen renovation for a modernized farmhouse and the Big Chill Retro Collection fridge looks great and fits the style of the place perfectly. It was delivered on a pallet and very securely packed for shipping, lots of foam and cardboard protection so it was in perfect condition when it was delivered. Unfortunately, I had pretty serious cosmetic damage done to the door panels during construction, through no fault of Big Chill or the delivery service -- it was a bad contractor who did not pay attention when installing it. But Big Chill Customer Service was amazing and shipped me a replacement door within a week. I could not believe how fast and responsive they are - great customer experience. I am very satisfied.

The Big Chill looks great in my vintage style kitchen, but the door has never sealed properly, which makes the refrigerator inefficient. I also notice that the paint on the door is corroding even though my kitchen is temperature controlled year round. For the premium price that I paid I expected an appliance that would stand the test of time. The Big Chill has not. Big Chills service department offered not resolution.

We bought an Original size Retro refrigerator for a kitchen remodel 4 years ago. It's been a great appliance so far. The fridge itself is very basic, but fulfills its primary function of keep food at the right temperature. It's also an ample size for our family, and easy to organize. The powder-coated metal case really attacts attention, especially in the cherry red finish we chose (we have a ridiculously small kitchen, so decided we might as well go big or go home!) The only "problem" has been that we're now planning on buying all of the matching appliances as part of our house addition project. Goodbye vintage O'Keefe & Merritt stove...

We love this stove, when we saw that the professional stove had increased size from 36 to 48" and on special we pulled the trigger had it sitting a year while we built our house. Used it first time this Christmas and we are very happy with it.

This is a beautiful stove but there are problems. I purchased the 30 inch retro stove in red in 2014. Since then I had to replace the broiler twice. The first time after 15 months the second time 8 months after the first repair. It cost me over $200 each time. Now every time I use the broiler I wonder if it will work. But I still love the stove just wish it was made more reliable like the cheap stoves I use to own!

I use houzz for EVERYTHING‼️ Paint colors.. design ideas.. emulating rooms.. when I found BIG CHILL.. I knew I was designing my kitchen around their appliances‼️ I contacted them directly & spoke with Lisa. She was amazing‼️ She & I were the general contractor for my kitchen. When my appliances arrived.. it was EXACTLY what I expected & BETTER in person. LOVE the look & Qualitt. Customer Service was great throughout the entire process♥️‼️ Thank you BIG CHILL for my fabulous kitchen.

I love this range. I did not see many reviews when making my decision to purchase the pro style range. I took a chance and I am truly delighted. It operates well. First I was concern about the oven temperature maintaining an even and constant temperature. The ovens make baking a pleasure. Go ahead, you do not have to be a professional cook, but your prepared meals will be a wonderful creation. Thank you Big Chill

I fell in love with these retro appliances several years ago. When the opportunity came up for a re-build, I knew I wanted these for my kitchen. My first call was to Lisa. She was happy to answer my questions and promptly sent out powder coated color samples. I told her my colors were teals, turquoise and cobalt. A few weeks later she called me and said the new turquoise color was in. She sent out the sample and it was perfect. That was my initial experience with their amazing customer service. Next, the appliances were delivered not only on time but a few day ahead of what was projected. Finally I have to say how well made they are, These are not a "cosmetic look" over poor quality cheap appliances. They, like my grandmothers refrigerator are well built to last. They really are the centerpiece of my kitchen. Pricey? Yes, but worth every penny!

We do love the look of our fridge, and the shell seems like a sturdy design. However we have had multiple problems since buying this fridge. The most prominent has been a persistent creek whenever opening the main door. We have contacted big chill, had a repair person come out, and even had a replacement fridge sent out. Our house was damaged in when the courier took the old fridge out (no fault of big chill) but it took 6 months to get a settlement from the repair in part due to the insurance that Big Chill uses transferring the claim over to the courier's insurance after stating the claim was settled. The replacement fridge still creeks even after having a repairman out again, the door has started to sag as well and there is a small gap in the top. Overall we are just not happy with the quality, it's basically a low end Whirlpool fridge with a heavy shell put on it that seems to be causing structural issues. We really wanted to like this fridge and saved for 3 years to buy it, and are really disappointed with the results.
