In our experience Beth Katz overcharges for totally substandard work and work we did not ask for which is then followed by demands for these overcharges through abusive, arrogant, condescending emails and legal threats from her attorney resulting in waste of time, funds, and frustration. I am sharing our company's experience with Beth Katz Design Group in hopes of saving others from what we experienced with her. We had prior warnings and red flags and did not listen; we hope others will avoid our mistake.
Beth Katz presented herself to our company as an expert designer and promised to deliver class-A commercial building design. Our first meeting was a warning with Beth totally unfocused and all over the place with her ideas. We thanked her for the meeting and decided not to give her our business. Beth called back concluding on her own that “she had given a poor presentation of herself and her company as she was jet lagged and insisted on us giving her a second chance”. We believe in second chances, so we gave Beth Katz our business with written directions for her to only do Renderings / Marketing layout phase from the scope of work she has listed in her own contract so we would have proof of her work before going further.
After many delays and excuses, she finally gave us a presentation consisting of a few pages of online pictures of other buildings downloaded from the internet, showing what our building “could” look like and brought some tiles and wallpaper and laid them on the floor and asked us to “pick”. This was her idea of a Class-A building design proposal! Waste of our time and money!
Needless to say, we told her thank you, but we will head in another direction and offered to pay her the $3,000 fee as listed in “her own contract proposal” for Rendering / Marketing layout and stop our working relationship.
Worryingly, it became evident that Beth Katz does not adhere to her own contractual agreements. In our case, we found her arbitrarily increasing her service fees without prior consultation or agreement, demonstrating a fundamental lack of respect for contractual obligations that she actually drafted and signed with us.
She then sends us a bill for over $10,000 and when shown the written direction of only doing Renderings and when shown her own contract listing this service for $3,000, she decided to decrease her overcharging from $10,000 to $6,000. How did she come up with $6,000 from $3,000 listed in “her own contract”? After many insulting and unprofessional emails from Beth Katz and a lawsuit letter from her attorney that she keeps on hand for these kinds of imtimidation and extortion needs, we paid her $6,000 so that we would not have to deal with her abusive, threatening and insulting behavior and emails and further waste our time and money.
We wish we had listened to prior warnings about Beth Katz and had not hired Beth Katz as we ended up being the victims of overcharges for totally substandard work and work we did not ask
