I contacted Beautiful Borders to have concrete borders installed around the flower beds and gardens around my home. The company has a beautiful website with exquisite pictures of past work. I decided to go with the company based on these pictures. I contacted Roberto Marin, the owner, over several different mediums. Email, Phone and their Facebook page. Roberto sent me an email asking me to call him.
I called Roberto and set up an appointment time to view the work. He came by and measured the work. He provided a quote and asked us to choose a color for the borders as well as a style of border. We selected a color for the Behr family of paints via a Behr catalog.
The week was rainy and not conducive for this type of concrete work. We postponed the project for a couple of days, twice. (This is not his fault and does not have any weight in the grading I gave him.) On Monday, he told me that he would be by between 10 - 11am. It was 1pm before I heard from him. Apparently he needed to pick up an employee and when he got to where his trailer was stored, he found the trailer was soaked and flooded. I asked him to communicate with me better and he told me that his son had not told him about the problem for several hours as they tried to fix the issue.
The next day, again, promised a time frame and did not show up at the time stated. He showed up a couple hours late and began the work. The day became overcast as the day went on. However, the borders were laid out and covered with plastic sheeting to protect them from the rain. He stated he will be back the next day to paint them. I texted him about excess concrete that had fallen on my pavers. He stated that wasn't a problem and that concrete doesn't stick to pavers.
The next day, he showed up at about 5pm. Why would anyone paint at 5pm, toward the end of the day is beyond me. High humidity will damper all painting efforts. However, the borders were painted and they departed at nearly 8pm. Later that night, the rain came and washed away 95% of the paint. And the concrete on my pavers, that I advised him about two days prior, had stuck on the pavers. I called him and told him about the concrete on my pavers. He told me a broom would remove it. It did not. I even pressure cleaned the pavers and the concrete is still there. He told me to call him in a couple of days to repaint the borders. I then asked him about the excess concrete behind the pavers in my flowerbeds, he told me that he can't take the excess concrete because it doesn't fit on his truck. He told me to cover it with mulch! On Sunday, he was suppose to come out and help me with the concrete on the pavers. He never showed up.
