I believe in connecting craftsmanship and design with story to create work of longevity, honesty and warmth. My name is Aaron Barton and I'm what you might call a multidisciplinary designer and maker. I started Backwoods Original in 2012 as a vehicle for putting into production works designed for theatre, exhibitions, events and commercial spaces that required a high level of attention to detail. Quickly the scope evolved to encompass commissioned furniture projects for private clients and limited run collections. This continues to be an important part of what we do at Backwoods. Backwoods Original is a one stop shop from design consultation and development through to fabrication and installation. Each Backwoods Original project, big or small, is handcrafted out of salvaged and sustainable materials for their inherent character and low environmental impact.

Backwoods Original crafted a bespoke continuous timber bathroom counter, shelves and vanity light hood unit. I simply drafted the design and they translated it into the best way to join the timber in easy consultation with me. It was perfectly crafted and installed, looks beautiful and has really made my bathroom. It was good value and a completely trouble free job unlike most of the rest of my renovation. I'd recommend Backwoods Original with pleasure!

Aaron is a craftsman of the highest order. He has incredible artistry and his practical problem solving skills are extraordinary. Every time we engage him, we come away extremely happy with his ingenuity and skill because the result is always more than our expectation. He has enhanced our property with delightful additions, including multiple bookshelves and a chook pen (where I could sleep!). I highly recommend Aaron: he will solve any issue that come up (for example a sloping floor) and deliver a very fine product that is not only practical but something to be treasured for generations.

We have used Backwoods Original for our Foyer refurbishment at the Queensland Academies Creative Industries Campus in Kelvin Grove. We are a high school for senior students in year 10 - 12 and Aaron designed and created our furniture to be able to deal with the robust nature of teenagers in a school environment whilst not compromising on quality and aesthetics. His workmanship is magnificent and his attention to detail cannot be faulted. Aaron was also respectful of our requirements for installation in a school setting and delivered as promised, on time every time. Some of the work created and installed by Aaron include tables, chairs, honour board, door skins, and planter boxes. We will definitely be using Backwoods Original again when the opportunitiy arises.

We had designer furniture manufactured by Backwoods Original and we found them to be very thorough,helpful and precise in their communication very professional & friendly to deal with.Aaron came up with some great ideas & designs for our project and he always went out of his way to make sure the end product was perfect.
