We found Amy to be very professional. She gave us homework to do before the onsite visit that included all of the colors of our furnishings and finishes to be installed in the new house. This provided Amy a sense of our tastes in order to fine tune the onsite consultation. Onsite she methodically walked us through the rooms placing samples on each wall surface in direct and indirect lighting, guiding us with her understanding of the science of color and combining our tastes for the final selections. Later the same day we received a report documenting all selections. She also ordered large samples that we received 3 days later as well as instructions to purchase paint samples to apply in the actual rooms to be 100% sure of color and color finish. We enjoyed the experience working with Amy and the guidance she provided. We came away feeling positive about our color choices.

Our family recently moved into a previously updated and added onto 1866 farmhouse in the Driftless area in the beautiful IL/IA/WI tri-state area. I have a specific vision for the home, and the existing paint colors weren’t a good fit for the look and feel I want. I had purchased a lot of paint samples and wasn’t getting the results I thought I would when I actually tried the colors. Although I feel I have a good sense of design and even color, I find choosing paint colors is hard because you need to understand undertones and know the paint lines. I was concerned about finding a color consultant who would understand my vision and know how to help me achieve it through paint color. I had looked at several color consultants’ websites and didn’t get a sense that they used color the way I wanted to use it. Additionally, I had talked to some people locally, but they also didn’t understand my vision and seemed to suggest only “on-trend” colors. When I found Amy’s website, I was intrigued by the classic and historic homes she had worked on, her unique color choices and how well they worked in the spaces shown. At first I wondered if virtual color consulting could work, but when I had my call with Amy, I could tell she understood my vision, knew the paint lines well, and had a proven process for working with clients. Getting together the materials she requested helped me to better define my vision, too. When a choice had to be made between changing the existing trim color—and there is a lot of trim and millwork—and going with the colors I originally thought I wanted, or keeping the trim and going a different direction with walls, Amy helped me understand what the best choices would be. I chose keeping the existing trim and working with a different palette, and I loved the new direction even more than what I had originally had in mind. And it still fits my original vision for the overall look and feel of the house. And in the basement where we did new trim, Amy helped me chose a beautiful color that works with my upstairs colors. Additionally, I spent less money overall not changing all the trim, even though I worked with a color consultant. I would never have known to consider the paint colors Amy chose. Even my painters (who do a lot of very nice work in the area) were blown away by the beauty of the choices and details, like how painting the ceiling a particular color—not just standard ceiling paint—can look. One other benefit to using Amy was that I learned a lot about paint colors and lines during this process. We are embarking on a kitchen and mudroom renovation next, and I will definitely be using Amy again, and I highly recommend her.

We moved to a 1908 house in Denver after many years on the East Coast. The house has lovely woodwork and tall ceilings throughout and we were eager to get the main level and bedroom level painted. I had a one-hour consultation with someone who, while very nice, left me with sample colors that didn't feel right. I truly do not have a talent for color other than on a very broad scale. Luckily, my brother and sister-in-law were visiting and told me about Amy Krane. They had worked with her on their home in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and they were extremely impressed with the end result. They added that everyone who comes to their house comments on how lovely the paint colors are. I emailed Amy to ask if she did virtual consults and she said it was a significant part of her business. So we signed on and got the process started! Amy's way of learning exactly what colors you already have in your existing furniture and in your art worth is dead-on. We learned so much with the "assignments" we were given before our first telephone consultation. Bottom line, I adore every color she helped us select. I don't have a favorite because every room is lovely. This work was completed in June, but immediately followed by a construction project that ended two weeks ago, so I am late with this review. We are thoroughly enjoying our new home, and we thank Amy for her knowledge and expertise in helping us.

Amy really knows her colors! I was completely stumped as to which color to paint the trim on our stone house, and within a couple of hours of working with Amy, we were able to narrow it down to three colors, all of which would compliment the stone colors beautifully. Amy was able to distinguish how the colors will appear in various light situations, which is critical given the orientation of our house. Although I haven't chosen the final color yet, I am very very close and delighted that Amy was able to help me take a significant step in making this very important decision.

We have owned our home for over 8 years now. It’s a simple home with gorgeous stone work built by meticulous stone masons over 60 years ago. However, the home didn’t have the “pop” and curb appeal we were looking for. The beauty of our home did not stand out. We needed someone with an understanding of good architectural color design for the exterior of a home. Painting a house is an expensive proposition. We knew we couldn’t afford to get it wrong. And since we’d be living with the colors we chose for over a decade, we wanted an outcome that we’d be happy with for that whole interval. That’s why we called up Amy Krane. She visited our home and helped us zero in on two vastly different color palettes that we loved. We would have chased our tails for weeks (or longer) hoping to reach the clarity we got from just a few hours with Amy. She’s incredibly knowledgeable regarding color, materials, and the strengths of various paint brands. And she gave us a road map for where the different colors would go, from trim to soffits to shutters, to make life easier for our painters. Working with Amy was possibly our best investment while revamping our new home.

Amy is professional but fun, and spot-on with recommendations. She came up with some good options despite a problematic deck color. She carefully considered the options and questions my husband and I had, but she didn't hedge her opinions, which is exactly what my husband I needed in order to make a decision on an exterior paint color, roof color & material, deck stain, and color of pavers. Very much looking forward to seeing the finished product and then at some point moving on to indoor projects with Amy.

Amy is super helpful. My husband and I were struggling with the right choices for our new home, which is set in a wooded area with fluctuating light. I hired Amy to help me choose exterior paint colors for my historic house in the outskirts of DC. Although I am usually fairly decisive, this project had me dithering away for months before I could finally decide. Amy was patient and creative and I am thrilled with the final color palette, which is unique but appropriate. I highly recommend her services.

Amy has done virtual color and interior design for two of my homes, including, most recently, my home in Los Angeles. At the time, we thought we were painting it for me, so we chose a soft palette of greys, lavenders, and blues that really appealed to me. Not long after, I decided to sell the property and her choices helped me get multiple offers right after the open house and get a significant amount over the asking price. Whether you want color that suits your personal taste, a rental property, or staging for a sale, Amy is extremely knowledgeable, has a great eye, and is easy to work with to boot. Amy assisted us with all selections for a new build (i.e., floors, cabinets, doors, trim, hardware, lighting, furnishings, fabrics, bedding, and paint). She was ESSENTIAL to our decision process at every level, and we cannot imagine having made all of these decisions without her expert judgment. It's the best investment in our future home we could have made, as Amy helped us avoid many expensive mistakes. We love everything that she helped us select! She listened to our preferences and made suggestions that opened our eyes to things we never imagined--it was a perfect balance between respecting our inclinations and getting us to stretch and see possibilities we had not envisioned. She's wonderful at choosing color, but her design sense is excellent at so many other aspects of design, too. We could not recommend her more strongly! Amy has been so wonderful to work with. Her knowledge of color combinations has been so valuable to our project.
