Kara Asilanis Fine Art Paintings

Kara has created three "portraits" of houses important to me and my husband. She painted three portraits from photos we gave her -- our house in San Diego where we lived when we were first married, our house in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and my great-grandmother's stone cottage in Scotland. WIthout being overly detailed or literal, she captured the "feel" of each house and location, capturing memories for us each time we look at the paintings. Her style is fresh, evocative, and delightful. We also have quite a few of her other work, paintings we did not commission but could not resist. If the measure of true art is that every time you see the painting, it is as if you are seeing it for the first time, her paintings are true art. I never tire of looking at her work.

I owned a contracting business in the San Francisco Bay Area, a crowded, creative business. I needed signage which would set me apart from the other builders. I commissioned Kara to paint a portrait of a craftsman bungalow to draw attention to my advertising and yard signage. Kara was receptive, creative and professional. Because this bungalow existed only in my imagination, it took several iterations for my ideas to become a fully realized illustration. The end result was very successful and helped my business stand out from the crowd. I received many compliments and comments on the signs and I know that Kara's painting was the core reason for this. Throughout this process Kara was always ready to pick up her brush and this beautiful painting is not only on the signs, the original now graces my home.

I discovered Kara an a home show where she had beautiful painting of homes rendered with whimsical creativity that really captured the essence of peoples beloved homes. I was captivated! I commissioned her to paint my home and was delighted with the process and the results. She is a true professional, a joy to work with and her paintings are magical!

I think anyone who loves their home would enjoy owning one of Kara's "home portraits." She's a warm and easy-going person, so collaborating is an enjoyable experience. Nonetheless, her portrait of my home was done without my active collaboration, through her unique vision: I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! I've been told I am a "big patron" of Kara's art. It's true my collection is large, spanning many years and themes. Her paintings hang in my home and my office, and each has a special place, a mood or emotion stirred. As a Californian, I relish her paintings of trees within expansive vistas because they transport me home, giving me a glimpse of the "big sky" of the Central Valley. Viewing Kara's art induces a meditative state, leaving me refreshed and calmed.
