Set within an airy contemporary extension to a lovely Georgian home, the Siatama Kitchen is our most ambitious project to date. The client, a master cook who taught English in Siatama, Japan, wanted a space that spliced together her love of Japanese detailing with a sophisticated Scandinavian approach to wood. At the centre of the deisgn is a large island, made in solid british elm, and topped with a set of lined drawers for utensils, cutlery and chefs knifes. The 4-post legs of the island conform to the 寸 (pronounced ‘sun’), an ancient Japanese measurement equal to 3cm. An undulating chevron detail articulates the lower drawers in the island, and an open-framed end, with wood worktop, provides a space for casual dining and homework. A full height pantry, with sliding doors with diagonally-wired glass, and an integrated american-style fridge freezer, give acres of storage space and allow for clutter to be shut away. A plant shelf above the pantry brings the space to life, making the most of the high ceilings and light in this lovely room.

This expansive Scandinavian style kitchen features quartzite counters and backsplash behind bertazzoni range, custom designed cabinets with a furniture feel, and a chandelier holding real candles.

Keeping the basic layout of the original kitchen, we completed a full upgrade on the appliances, cabinetry and fixtures, creating a clean and modern feel, maintaining warmth.

Feature In: Visit Miami Beach Magazine & Island Living A nice young couple contacted us from Brazil to decorate their newly acquired apartment. We schedule a meeting through Skype and from the very first moment we had a very good feeling this was going to be a nice project and people to work with. We exchanged some ideas, comments, images and we explained to them how we were used to worked with clients overseas and how important was to keep communication opened. They main concerned was to find a solution for a giant structure leaning column in the main room, as well as how to make the kitchen, dining and living room work together in one considerably small space with few dimensions. Whether it was a holiday home or a place to rent occasionally, the requirements were simple, Scandinavian style, accent colors and low investment, and so we did it. Once the proposal was signed, we got down to work and in two months the apartment was ready to welcome them with nice scented candles, flowers and delicious Mojitos from their spectacular view at the 41th floor of one of Miami's most modern and tallest building. The Holte Studio kitchen has timber veneer doors and a mixture of bespoke and IKEA cabinets behind the elm wood fronts. The downdraft hob is BORA, and the kitchen worktops are made from Caeserstone Quartz. The kitchen island has black matte bar stools and Original BTC pendant lights hanging above. The cream boucle sofa is by Soho home and armchairs are by Zara Home. The biophilic design included bespoke planting low level dividing walls to create separation between the zones and add some greenery. Garden views can be seen throughout due to the large scale glazing.
