Painted Chinese Furniture
This stunning, large sideboard originates from Mongolia, circa 1900 and is in a style that is distinctive of that region. The palette of colours - strong reds, yellows, greens and blues, was a feature of Mongolian furniture, though here less bright than when first applied. The sideboard is in pine, with removable shelves inside. The six doors and six drawers are beautifully painted with details of animals, birds and flowers - each with their own symbolism. These include chrysanthemums for longevity, pheasants for good fortune and a tiger for protection. With a deep red top and frames, this would make a wonderful accent piece in a dining room or living room.
