We have completed a breathtaking project for some previous clients in their new-build home. This stunning kitchen and utility uses Mereway’s Q-Line range in ‘Pietra Ceramica’ and ‘Grafite Ceramica’. We matched the worktops using Laminam’s ‘Pietra di Savoia Antracite Bocciardata’ and ‘Pietra di Savoia Grigia Bocciardata’ to create a stunning, industrial finish. The ceramic itself has the most beautiful, dramatic and interesting finish due to its unique texture and colour. A key design feature was having the tall bank of units in the darker tone, and island in the lighter tone in order to create more contrast and highlight the beauty of the materials. Sleek, black plinths create a ‘floating’ illusion, adding interest to the overall space. Our design brief for this project was to create a contemporary, hybrid space that harmoniously balanced their day to day life with their social life. Plenty of storage space, a large island, drinks area and a matching utility were core factors of the brief with a primary focus on accessibility as one of our clients is a wheelchair user. Being able to have a kitchen to prepare meals in as a couple was an important factor in the overall design of the kitchen, which is why the recess in the kitchen island is a core feature. The kitchen table is a thing of beauty in itself, thoughtful design resulted in the table being adjoined to the island. The wood used by Spekva is a stunning feature that stands out so well on its own, and creates a natural warmth, so a simple design for the legs was paramount. Our focus here was on the attention to detail of the legs, which we had specially crafted in order to match the grip ledges of the tall bank of units. This element of the design was crucial to ensuring continuity between the island and table, yet give the design another dimension and another beautiful feature. Creating a drinks area adds to the social element of the brief. Therefore, on the opposite side of the island, we installed a bar area which includes a wine cooler and built-under fridge for soft drinks and beer. The utility room stays very much in the same direction, which is something we felt important as the utility room can be seen from the kitchen/dining area. Instead of fitting units in the luxurious ceramic, we opted to have units in a competitively priced concrete-effect laminate. This finish fits perfectly into the overall design and is extremely practical for a utility room. The space is kitted out with integrated laundry equipment, a sink and tap and additional storage.

Exhibiting characteristics of a modern design, this kitchen is stylish. In general modern designs are adept to minimalism and the general idea is that less is more. It also embraces the extreme accuracy and simplicity. The bright and white background enhances its geometric shapes with clean and sleek lines and surfaces. From the black appliances, to monochromatic furnishings, light and simple tiles to large windows welcoming daylight. Even the decorations are as minimal as possible. Ultra-modern appliances are the usual go to in minimalist designs, however, the customer chose a gas cook-top. But the rest of the appliances are all modern and built in. For instance, the almost invisible ceiling extractor. The cabinets’ fronts are in gloss finish, which reflects the geometric and sleek lines. The option of handle-less minimises the visual information. The cabinetry is also taken to the ceiling for a cleaner environment. The modern worktop with marble veins matches the floor and creates a clean design. The choice of quartz counter-top is durable, easy maintain and is stunning. The almost monochromatic design, creates a clean and uncluttered kitchen. The dark grey, brings presence to the kitchen and is a timeless colour choice, while the high gloss colour increases its impact. In this case, the kitchen is in a large open space and the dark grey makes it dominate the space. For modern designs, the goal is functionality above aesthetics, so usually lighting and decorations are kept to a minimum and as sleek as possible. Designer Chris Maxwell From a trendy southwestern 90s interior, this kitchen was brought into 2016 with a beautiful palette of grays and creams and whites. Because this kitchen is integrated with the main living room in the house, this customer really wanted to clean up the kitchen and make it look more like the existing living space. One way to achieve that was to remove the Microwave from over the range, and create a new location for a smaller unit off to the side where it is less obtrusive. Another goal the customer had in mind was to work with the existing tile floors. We did this by choosing the right cabinet, wall and counter top colors the would go hand in hand with the tile. Our choices of Rustic Maple, Greystone cabinet doors and the very clean, sleek Brittanicca Cambria Quartz counter gave new life to the once dated kitchen. The end result was a very happy customer and a house that now visually flows from one room to the other.

IMPRESSIVE ANTIQUE MIRROR SPLASHBACK But the biggest 'wow' factor in this Kitchen is undoubtedly the dazzling Antique Mirror Glass Splashback, with its distinctive distressed vintage look. It's no short of spectacular and certainly works as a strong focal point. The reflective layer is the perfect tie between the contemporary and the vintage look.
