This 1950's home was chopped up with the segmented rooms of the period. The front of the house had two living spaces, separated by a wall with a door opening, and the long-skinny hearth area was difficult to arrange. The kitchen had been remodeled at some point, but was still dated. The homeowners wanted more space, more light, and more MODERN. So we delivered. We knocked out the walls and added a beam to open up the three spaces. Luxury vinyl tile in a warm, matte black set the base for the space, with light grey walls and a mid-grey ceiling. The fireplace was totally revamped and clad in cut-face black stone. Cabinetry and built-ins in clear-coated maple add the mid-century vibe, as does the furnishings. And the geometric backsplash was the starting inspiration for everything. We'll let you just peruse the photos, with before photos at the end, to see just how dramatic the results were!

LDKのインテリアほど頭を悩ませるものはないでしょう。日常的に家族が集まる場所であり、客間として来客をもてなす場所でもあるリビングルームは、飽きのこないインテリアと、少しばかりの個性が必要となります。大きなソファーを置くのもいいですが、一人がけの椅子を家族の人数に合わせて置いたりするのも個性的ですね。一方で、ローテーブルやテレビ台などの家具は、LDKの壁や床の色との馴染みを考えながら選ぶと失敗しません。家族で使うLDKは、それだけ多くのものが持ち込まれる場所。雑多なものであふれかえりがちなので、壁面収納や床下収納など、LDK全体のスペースを有効に使って、整理整頓しやすい部屋づくりが必要です。床に導線の妨げとなる物を置かないという単純なことだけでも、広くて快適なLDKづくりにつながります。

LDKを広く見せるコツ

日本の住宅ではLDKや客間のスペースを広く取れないことも多く、少しの家具でも窮屈に感じてしまうこともあるでしょう。間取りが決まっているからこそ、視覚で広く見せるコツがあります。
  • 天井を高く見せるため、LDKの家具はなるべく低いものに統一する。
  • 家具をLDKの中央に置かず、壁や部屋の隅に沿って配置して視線の中心に置かない。
  • 床に敷くラグはあまり大きなサイズにせず、フローリング面を大きく見せる。
  • 明るい色の家具を配置する。白い家具は光を反射し部屋を明るく見せ、広く感じさせる効果がある。
