Le client souhaitait réaliser une extension pour avoir une pièce lumineuse. Une extension aurait, pour un coût important et des travaux lourds, dénaturé l'harmonie existante des façades extérieures et de la composition du bâti. En outre, le client trouvait sa cuisine peu pratique et sombre. Il a été proposé de détruire une partie d'un grenier peu exploité, et de réaliser une verrière en toiture. Il en résulte un espace au volume généreux, baigné de lumière naturelle, et une cuisine optimisée. Les poutres existantes, de très belle qualité, sont mises en valeur.

Caring for aging parents is both a joy and a challenge. The clients wanted to create a more aging-in-place friendly basement area for their mother. The existing kitchenette was more of a glorified bar and did not give her the option of cooking independently, and definitely not stylishly. We re-configured the area so it was all open, with full kitchen capabilities. All appliances were selected to cater to the mother's limited reach, so all functional storage and product usage can be done without raising arms excessively. Special storage solutions include a peg-system for a dish drawer, tiered silverware trays, a slide-up appliance garage, and pivoting pantry storage. The cabinets also give ample display space for her collection of antique glassware. In lieu of an island, we created a solid-surface top for a standard table so food can be prepped while sitting and without damaging the table top. All items reflect the mother's tastes and existing furniture so she can truly feel like this basement is her space, while still being close to her son and daughter-in-law.

This kitchen was updated with Medallion maple wood species, Middleton door with a flat panel in Sandpiper Classic paint on the perimeter of the kitchen. The bar area and shelving unit and kitchen island features frameless cabinets by Design Craft in maple wood species, Potter Mills door style with flat center panel French Roast stain with Sable glaze and highlight. The countertops are Eternia Castlebar quartz with a roundover edge and a Blanco white fireclay apron front sink. Moen single handle faucet in matte black. A 4-light candelabra pendant light by Park Harbor hangs over the island and a Seagull 5-light Ravenwood chandelier hangs over the dining room table.

The kitchen is so often the heart of the home, but add a large island unit as a central focus and this is a room that becomes the hub of all the action, from breakfast and lunch to dinner and beyond. That’s why CRL Quartz Sahara was the surface of choice for this busy family kitchen, where the large, open-plan space takes on a multi-functional role within the home. With the homeowners keen to include an island complete with breakfast bar within the room’s design as the perfect spot for food prep, home working, dining and socialising, designers Coton Interiors recommended a trip to Intamarble in Staffordshire. Here the family could see first-hand the array of CRL Quartz surfaces available, selecting Sahara as the perfect fit for their décor plans.
