This kitchen is a part of a new construction of a home on a horse farm. The homeowner is a horse enthusiast and wanted the new home to look and feel like a modern farm house. Much of the wood features are meant to recall the look of a barn, even the wood used on the staircase is reclaimed wood used from the original barn that was on the property. The kitchen uses Scavolini cabinetry and is the focal point of life at the farm house. They are a grey oak veneer with a super glossy lacquer clear coat, slab door with a channel instead of handles for a modern look. A long island stretches the expanse of the room providing plentiful seating and counter space for hosting. An appliance garage hides the coffee maker and other mini appliances that usually living on the counter top. A stainless steel refrigerator balances on the other side. The kitchen is situated in the great room with the living area featuring a gas fireplace and dining table (not shown). Keeping all interior furnishing at a low profile so that your eye stays focused on the crystal blue Pacific. Adding natural furs and playful colors to the homes neutral palate kept the space warm and cozy. Plants and trees helped complete the space and allowed “life” to flow inside and out. For the exterior furnishings we chose natural teak and neutral colors, but added pops of orange to contrast against the bright blue skyline. This open floor plan kitchen, living room, dining room, and staircase. Owner wanted a transitional flare with mid century, industrial, contemporary, modern, and masculinity. The owners were downsizing from a large ornate property down the street and were seeking a number of goals. Single story living, modern and open floor plan, comfortable working kitchen, spaces to house their collection of artwork, low maintenance and a strong connection between the interior and the landscape. Working with a long narrow lot adjacent to conservation land, the main living space (16 foot ceiling height at its peak) opens with folding glass doors to a large screen porch that looks out on a courtyard and the adjacent wooded landscape. This gives the home the perception that it is on a much larger lot and provides a great deal of privacy. The transition from the entry to the core of the home provides a natural gallery in which to display artwork and sculpture. Artificial light almost never needs to be turned on during daytime hours and the substantial peaked roof over the main living space is oriented to allow for solar panels not visible from the street or yard.

This tropical great room's design was inspired by the villas in Bali. The vaulted ceiling is designed with reed thatch and ebony stained natural beams and rafters. The kitchen has a waterfall edge kitchen island, ebony cabinets, natural basket pendants, and cream colored tiles. The glass sliding and pocketing doors opening to the courtyard gardens are teak. The floors are a cream porcelain tile. The white sofa has modern and timeless comfort, the woven chairs speak to the tropical style throughout the home. The dining table is monkey-pod wood.

This spec home investor came to DSA with a unique challenge: to create a residence that could be sold for 8-10 million dollars on a 2-3 million dollar construction budget. The investor gave the design team complete creative control on the project, giving way to an opportunity for the team to pursue anything and everything as long as it fit in the construction budget. Out of this challenge was born a stunning modern/contemporary home that carries an atmosphere that is both luxurious and comfortable. The residence features a first floor owners’ suite, study, glass lined wine cellar, entertainment retreat, spacious great room, pool deck & lanai, bonus room, terrace, and five upstairs bedrooms. The lot chosen for the home sits on the beautiful St. Petersburg waterfront, and Designers made sure to take advantage of this at every angle of the home, creating sweeping views that flow between the exterior and interior spaces. The home boasts wide open spaces created by long-span trusses, and floor to ceiling glass and windows that promote natural light throughout the home. The living spaces in the home flow together as part of one contiguous interior space, reflecting a more casual and relaxed way of life.
