The term “industrial” evokes images of large factories with lots of machinery and moving parts. These cavernous, old brick buildings, built with steel and concrete are being rehabilitated into very desirable living spaces all over the country. Old manufacturing spaces have unique architectural elements that are often reclaimed and repurposed into what is now open residential living space. Exposed ductwork, concrete beams and columns, even the metal frame windows are considered desirable design elements that give a nod to the past. This unique loft space is a perfect example of the rustic industrial style. The exposed beams, brick walls, and visible ductwork speak to the building’s past. Add a modern kitchen in complementing materials and you have created casual sophistication in a grand space. Andrew McKinney. The original galley kitchen was cramped and lacked sunlight. The wall separating the kitchen from the sun room was removed and both issues were resolved. Douglas fir was used for the support beam and columns.

This 6,000sf luxurious custom new construction 5-bedroom, 4-bath home combines elements of open-concept design with traditional, formal spaces, as well. Tall windows, large openings to the back yard, and clear views from room to room are abundant throughout. The 2-story entry boasts a gently curving stair, and a full view through openings to the glass-clad family room. The back stair is continuous from the basement to the finished 3rd floor / attic recreation room. The interior is finished with the finest materials and detailing, with crown molding, coffered, tray and barrel vault ceilings, chair rail, arched openings, rounded corners, built-in niches and coves, wide halls, and 12' first floor ceilings with 10' second floor ceilings. It sits at the end of a cul-de-sac in a wooded neighborhood, surrounded by old growth trees. The homeowners, who hail from Texas, believe that bigger is better, and this house was built to match their dreams. The brick - with stone and cast concrete accent elements - runs the full 3-stories of the home, on all sides. A paver driveway and covered patio are included, along with paver retaining wall carved into the hill, creating a secluded back yard play space for their young children. This white-on-white kitchen design has a transitional style and incorporates beautiful clean lines. It features a Personal Paint Match finish on the Kitchen Island matched to Sherwin-Williams "Threshold Taupe" SW7501 and a mix of light tan paint and vibrant orange décor. These colors really pop out on the “white canvas” of this design. The designer chose a beautiful combination of white Dura Supreme cabinetry (in "Classic White" paint), white subway tile backsplash, white countertops, white trim, and a white sink. The built-in breakfast nook (L-shaped banquette bench seating) attached to the kitchen island was the perfect choice to give this kitchen seating for entertaining and a kitchen island that will still have free counter space while the homeowner entertains.
