This 7,500 square feet home, situated on a waterfront site in Sag Harbor, New York, was designed as a shared vacation home for four brothers and their families. A collaborative effort between the clients and Cecil Baker + Partners yielded a contemporary home that pays homage to the Eastern Long Island vernacular. The home is composed of three distinct volumes that step back from one another to optimize both the water view and privacy. The two outer wings take on familiar cedar-clad, pitched roof geometry while the central three-story glass box links them together and anchors the home. The two car garage, with a private living space above, projects from the main house via a breezeway, defining a private garden. The interior of the home integrates warm, tactile materials and clean modern lines. The use of full-height windows, floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall, and an operable overhead glass door creates an indoor-outdoor living experience and floods the home with natural light. The subtle choreography of the interior space lends flexibility to the Client for both social and private uses of the home. The first floor contains an open plan for the kitchen, living room, dining area and sunroom, and the second floor includes two full master suites facing the bay, a guest room with spectacular water views, and a children's room that overlooks the garden. The fully finished basement holds a large playroom, a gym, a full spa bath and a wine cellar. In addition, views in all directions are unobstructed from a third floor roof terrace. Cherry Cabinets Kitchen Renovation

This was a compleate kitchen remodel. My customer went with Cherry Cabinets, Quarts counter tops, white subway tiles and stainless steel appliances. This is a narrow kitchen so my customer decided to eliminate the kitchen table and have me build a breakfast nook at barstool height with seating for four people. its a little unconventional but removing the table from the middle of the room creates a wonderful working environment. I have been installing an oddly high number of these nooks throughout the years. Diferent elevations on the top cabinets adds an incredable ellegant look to the room. Crown moldings are always a must in order to achieve the WOW effect when your guests enter the room. One of the most important features created in this design that makes this kitchen stand above most is the Valance that I created above the sink that houses two low voltage stainless steel high hats. Most kitchen installers don't want to go through the trouble of building the valance and what they acutally do is a disservice to the customer. When I create my valance I make sure that I trim the window with moldings that touch the cabinets on the left and right of the window and that the moldings touch the bottom of the valance. What the creates is a continues look to the cabinets with no breaks in the design. Notice the next time you go and see your friends new remodel if this feature was created.

The penthouse is around 10 years old and our client wanted to renovate and reconfigure the layout to suit his everyday needs. We removed one of the bedrooms and incorporated it into the open plan living area. This created an area in his living room for all his musical instruments which were previously in the bedroom. Our client is now enjoying the open plan space where he is able to compose his latest music whilst enjoying the views. Installation of the project was a 10-week schedule. Our client moved out and handed us the keys so we could manage the build work. We carefully selected dark greens and greys to create a warm and intimate space. Our bespoke furniture and curved sofa were all designed to fit the penthouse space perfectly. We also designed the bespoke kitchen with a wide-open grain to the finish which created a two-tone effect. Greater London is a thriving metropolis and we all need to be able to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. This beautiful penthouse is the perfect place to relax after a busy day in central London. Our client is overwhelmed with the end result.

キッチンは美味しい食事を作るためには欠かせないスペース。毎日使う場所だからこそ、機能性だけではなくおしゃれさにもこだわりたいものです。ここでは、使い勝手の良さやおしゃれさにこだわったL型キッチンのリフォーム事例と、L型キッチンリフォームのポイントをご紹介します。

L型キッチンの改善ポイントを考える

まずは、現在使用しているキッチンを見直してみましょう。調理するスペースが狭い、高さが自分の身長に合っていない、収納スペースが少ないなど、キッチンによってさまざまな改善ポイントが見つかるはずです。こうした改善ポイントをもとに、L型キッチンのリフォームを検討しましょう。

動線や広さ、レイアウトの見直し

L型キッチンスペースは人の動きに合わせてレイアウトすることが重要です。動線を意識して、広さやレイアウトを見直しましょう。広さの目安として、キッチン空間を2～3歩で行き来できるのが良いといわれています。狭すぎず広すぎず、キッチンの通路幅は0.9～1.2m程度に収めると良いでしょう。また、冷蔵庫とシンク、コンロを結ぶ三角形の動線（ワークトライアングル）が正三角形に近いほど、作業効率が良いとされています。3辺の合計が3.6～6.6mに収まるように配置すると、効率良く動ける程よい広さとなるでしょう。次にL型キッチンデザインとレイアウトを特徴別に確認してみましょう。1人で料理をするのか複数人で料理をするのかなど、さまざまなシーンで使い勝手の良いレイアウトを検討してみてください。現在では以下5つのレイアウトが一般的です。

Ⅰ型L型キッチン
Ⅰ型L型キッチンは最も一般的なレイアウトで、シンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫が横一線に並んだタイプのL型キッチンです。最近では、対面カウンターを付けて背面に収納スペースと冷蔵庫を置くなど、Ⅱ型やアイランド型に似たタイプのレイアウトも人気です。
Ⅱ型L型キッチン
Ⅱ型キッチンはシンク、調理台、コンロ、冷蔵庫を2カ所に分け、平行に配置することで調理スペースを広げるレイアウトです。調理の際の動線が短くなるというメリットがあります。
L型L型キッチン
L型L型キッチンは、シンク、調理台、コンロがL字型に配置されたレイアウトです。ワークトライアングルを作りやすく、動線をコンパクトに抑えることができます。
アイランドL型キッチン
アイランドL型キッチンは独立型L型キッチンとも呼ばれ、シンク、調理台などを壁面から独立させて設置するレイアウトです。調理台を囲むように作業ができるため、家族や友人など複数で楽しみながらキッチンを共有できます。ホームパーティーや料理教室をする際にも便利でしょう。
ペニンシュラL型キッチン
ペニンシュラは英語で「半島」を意味します。L型キッチンの左右どちらかが壁に接しているレイアウトを指します。調理スペースがオープンになっているため、リビングやダイニングにいる方とコミュニケーションを取りながら調理できるというメリットがあります。

ビルトイン機器の選択

L型キッチンタイプのレイアウト見直しと同時に、ビルトイン機器も検討されてみてはいかがでしょうか。ビルトイン機器とは、建物や家具、設備などの中に組み込んで利用する機器を指します。システムキッチンには、ビルトインコンロ、レンジフード、オーブンレンジ、食器洗浄乾燥機を組み込むことが可能です。ビルトインであればスタイリッシュにL型キッチンに溶け込み、インテリアの邪魔にもなりません。新築やリフォームの際に取り入れることをおすすめします。

ビルトインコンロ
ビルトインコンロには、それぞれ火力の異なるバーナーを組み合わせた3つ口タイプが一般的です。天板素材はガラストップが主流となっていますが、他にガラスコート、フッ素コート、ホーロー、アルミ、ステンレスなどがあります。使い勝手やデザイン、価格などを考慮して選択しましょう。
食器洗浄乾燥機
食器洗浄乾燥機 (食洗機) は手洗いよりも少ない水量できれいに食器を洗浄することができるため、新築やL型キッチンのリフォーム時には食洗機の導入をおすすめします。国内製のビルトイン食洗機の場合は引き出し式になっているタイプが多いのに対し、海外製のビルトイン食洗機は前開き式になっているものが一般的です。国内製・海外製それぞれで、設置業者や設置可能なシステムL型キッチンが異なる場合があるため注意しましょう。

収納スペースのアイデア

いかにデッドスペースを活かすかがL型キッチン収納のコツです。％Topicの収納は限られているため、多くの食器や調理器具、調味料などを片付けるための工夫が必要です。ビルトイン機器も限られたスペースできれいに収納する工夫のひとつといえるでしょう。システムL型キッチンの収納スペース以外のキッチン収納スペースとしては、床下収納が代表的です。床下の他に、壁面収納なども人気です。壁面収納の場合、食器や調理器具だけでなくL型キッチン家電までも収納し、スタイリッシュで生活感の出ないL型キッチンを演出することもできるでしょう。
