Remodel of an early 1960’s Santa Monica, California kitchen was designed to capture a timeless, yet functional space. The first thing to tackle was the spatial relationships to make the kitchen more functional for this small family. The existing refrigerator was moved to the adjacent wall and surrounded by the utility closet and pantry, creating a built-in look. This allowed us to build one long countertop and create a “furniture hutch” look on one wall. The base cabinet houses the trash/recycle bin on the left and the litter box is concealed in the right end cabinet. Choosing a free standing range and a microwave that is built-in, in an upper cabinet, created more countertop space on the cooking wall. The sink was kept on the diagonal in the corner so that the shelf behind it can be used to display art pieces. The Saarinen marble table is the centerpiece for an area that is wrapped with a medium turquoise painted bead board wainscot. New molded wood chairs complete the look. The serene colors of white, light turquoise and dark brown are timeless, while the stainless appliances, hardware and pendant light fixture add some sparkle. The white cabinets are warmed by the rich chocolate tone of the large porcelain tile floor. The sleek countertops are a toast-colored Caesarstone, selected for durability and ease of use. Glass subway tiles keep the backsplash subtle and contribute to the kitchen’s warm, casual feel.

This small studio has everything! It includes apartment size small white appliances, stunning colors (Diamond Cloud Gray cabinets), and great storage solutions! Besides the beauty of the turquoise backsplash and clean lines this small space is extremely functional! Warm wood boxes were custom made to house all of the cooking essentials in arms reach. The cabinets flow completely to the ceiling to allow for every inch of storage space to be used. Grey cabinets are even above the kitchen window. Our journey with the Capilano Project clients began nearly two years ago when we were brought in on the project by TQ Construction. The clients were looking for authentic marble and natural stone elements throughout their home. They had an earthy and rustic yet eclectic and playful style. We couldn’t resist such an interesting concept and knew wehad to be a part of it.Throughout the home you’ll find materials like marble, Quartzite, copper,brass and wrought iron, concrete style countertops, tiles, and beautiful engineered hardwood providing a warm textured base. We loved working on this project, the clients were so involved and open in the design process providing inspiration and recommendations that really hit themark. In the kitchen, we kept the millwork design on the back wall as minimal and complimentary as possible. By pairing white painted flat door cabinets, concrete style countertops & backsplash topped off with an accent of dark stained oak on the upper cabinets and range hood, we were able to achieve the perfect backdrop for the main event…the island! This island packs a punch! Not only aesthetically, but literally…there’s a hidden beverage center in there…with punch! Anyways, this island is equipped with a hammered copper apron front sink, undercabinet microwave drawer, integrated dishwasher, pull-out beverage fridge and freezer below, along with concealed storage under the countertop bar overhang. To say we maximized the space is an understatement. The countertop at the island is natural stone “Fusion Red” quartzite. A showstopper and conversation piece, no doubt. When the clients saw this slab of stone, they knew we had to have it. This stone countertop influenced the entire colour scheme for the kitchen. It features rusty red, orange, greige and blue hues which we carefully incorporated in all accents throughout the space including the island millwork itself.

In this kitchen up in Desert Mountain, we provided all of the cabinetry, countertops and backsplash to create the Mid Century Modern style for our clients remodel. The transformation is substantial compared to the size and layout it was before, making it more linear and doubling in size. For the perimeter we have white skinny shaker cabinetry with pops of Hickory wood to add some warmth and a seamless countertop backsplash. The island features painted black cabinetry with the skinny shaker style for some contrast and is over 14' long with enough seating for 8 people. In the fireplace bar area, we have also the black cabinetry with a fun pop of color for the backsplash tile along with honed black granite countertops. The selection choices of painted cabinetry, wood tones, gold metals, concrete flooring and furniture selections carry the style throughout and brings in great texture, contrast and warmth.

We opened the space by removing the existing wall between the dining room and kitchen and reconfigured the design of the kitchen. We installed Waypoint Livingspaces Cherry cabinets in the 630F doorstyle. Wilsonart’s Sangda Falls Quartz was installed on the countertop with Crystal Shores Random Linear Glass Tile in Sapphire Lagoon on the backsplash. 3 Hendrik pendant lights in Olde Bronze were installed over the island. A Crosstown Stainless Steel single bowl sink was also installed. In the entry hallway, a Pilltop coat and hat rack was installed for storage.

The addition of the recessed lighting as well as the under cabinet lighting brighten up this small space.

This crate and Barrel movable island has it's own spot and can be moved for an additional cooking and prep surface. The hidden storage in the wall pops open with a push of a finger to hide step stools and other items.
