A bar was built in to the side of this family room to showcase the homeowner's Bourbon collection. Reclaimed wood was used to add texture to the wall and the same wood was used to create the custom shelves. A bar sink and paneled beverage center provide the functionality the room needs. The paneling on the other walls are all original to the home.

Now this is a bar made for entertaining, conversation and activity. With seating on both sides of the peninsula you'll feel more like you're in a modern brewery than in a basement. A secret hidden bookcase allows entry into the hidden brew room and taps are available to access from the bar side. What an energizing project with bright bold pops of color against warm walnut, white enamel and soft neutral walls. After removing walls where the previous galley kitchen stood, we installed these cabinets to create a bar or butler's pantry area between the new kitchen and existing dining room.

Project Details Designer: Amy Van Wie Cabinetry: Brookhaven II – Framed Inset Cabinetry Wood: Perimeter and Island are Painted Maple; the Hutch is Distressed Pine Finish: Alpine White, Black with espresso glaze and the Hutch is Vintage Putty and Hazel on Distressed Pine Door: Lewisburg Recessed Countertop: Soap Stone Awards 2015 NKBA Design Award, Best New Kitchen 150SF+ This was such a fun project. Our clients were razor focused on all the details, which of course, as a designer, I loved! We decided to expand the finish palette from the traditional one or two to three: alpine white on the perimeter, black with espresso glaze for the island and vintage putty and hazel for the hutch area. We wanted to differentiate the hutch from the rest of the kitchen but still make it part of a unified whole. The third finish kept the area distinct and the matching door style kept it integrated. The symmetrical balance gives the kitchen a sophistication which reflects the owners perfectly. The Kohler Whitehaven farm sink, backsplash and hardware introduce the rustic elements reflective of the rest of the home and its bucolic setting.

This house got a facelift with a new kitchen, living room built ins and a wine room! The homeowners love how these new finishes have updated their central living spaces and made them feel at home!
