The front view of the cabin hints at the small footprint while a view of the back exposes the expansiveness that is offered across all four stories. This small 934sf lives large offering over 1700sf of interior living space and additional 500sf of covered decking.

(via VonDalwig) An existing 1967 complex of three buildings and a pool situated on 13 acres of meadows and wetlands was previously renovated and 2009. The main house was extended and a pool added in that renovation but the addition and pool felt more like a detached limb than an integrated part to the house and the plan adjustments and facade work did little to take advantage of the beautiful property and surroundings. Our approach was to allow the parts – the buildings, the landscape, the pool – to unfold and connect to the whole both inside and out, spatially and programmatically – and to establish relationships between spaces that builds a ‘stage’ allowing a programmatic ‘dance’ for the owners to visually and physically connect to the beautiful exterior setting. We reconfigured the floor plan and exterior openings, directing it towards views and created an exterior pergola that include, rather than exclude, the guest studio while also fulfilling the town pool regulations. The outcome is a subtle framing of multiple platforms that connects in and out.

Our architecture team was proud to design this traditional, cottage inspired home that is tucked within a developed residential location in St. Louis County. The main levels account for 6097 Sq Ft and an additional 1300 Sq Ft was reserved for the lower level. The homeowner requested a unique design that would provide backyard privacy from the street and an open floor plan in public spaces, but privacy in the master suite. Challenges of this home design included a narrow corner lot build site, building height restrictions and corner lot setback restrictions. The floorplan design was tailored to this corner lot and oriented to take full advantage of southern sun in the rear courtyard and pool terrace area. There are many notable spaces and visual design elements of this custom 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom brick cottage home. A mostly brick exterior with cut stone entry surround and entry terrace gardens helps create a cozy feel even before entering the home. Special spaces like a covered outdoor lanai, private southern terrace and second floor study nook create a pleasurable every-day living environment. For indoor entertainment, a lower level rec room, gallery, bar, lounge, and media room were also planned.

The unsual setting of the property on a hill in Kingston, along with tricky planning considerations, meant that we had to achieve a space split into different floor levels and with an irregular shape. This allowed us to create diverse spaces inside and out maximizing the natural light ingress on the east and south whilst optimizing the connection between internal and external areas. Vaulted ceilings, crisp finishes, minimalistic lines, modern windows and doors, and a sharp composite cladding resulted in an elegant, airy, and well-lighted dream home.

This beautiful dutch colonial style home showcases the Quarry Mill's Avondale natural thin stone veneer. Avondale is a colorful blend of real thin cut limestone veneer. This natural stone is unique in that the pieces of stone showcase a large color variation but all come from the same quarry. Avondale’s unique color variation comes from using different parts of the quarried slabs of natural stone. The quarry is naturally layered and the stone slabs or sheets are peeled up by pushing a wedge between the layers. The sheets vary in size with the largest being roughly 12’x2’ with a thickness ranging from 1”-12”. The outer portion of the sheets of stone are colorful due to the rainwater washing in minerals over millennia. The interior portion is the grey unadulterated limestone. We use hydraulic presses to process the slabs and expose the inner part of the limestone.

The exterior of this Westfield, NJ home is exquisite with various rooflines, double columns, a landscape design beautifully kept and oversized windows and doors that let endless natural light in.

Moody colors contrast with white painted trim and a custom white oak coat hook wall in a combination laundry/mudroom that leads to the home from the garage entrance.

After picture one year later and you could not tell that this is the way the house always looked. It match the existing right down to the octagonal gable attic vent!

Nestled in an undeveloped thicket between two homes on Monmouth road, the Eastern corner of this client’s lot plunges ten feet downward into a city-designated stormwater collection ravine. Our client challenged us to design a home, referencing the Scandinavian modern style, that would account for this lot’s unique terrain and vegetation. Through iterative design, we produced four house forms angled to allow rainwater to naturally flow off of the roof and into a gravel-lined runoff area that drains into the ravine. Completely foregoing downspouts and gutters, the chosen design reflects the site’s topography, its mass changing in concert with the slope of the land. This two-story home is oriented around a central stacked staircase that descends into the basement and ascends to a second floor master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. The main entrance—a triangular form subtracted from this home’s rectangular plan—opens to a kitchen and living space anchored with an oversized kitchen island. On the far side of the living space, a solid void form projects towards the backyard, referencing the entryway without mirroring it. Ground floor amenities include a bedroom, full bathroom, laundry area, office and attached garage. Among Architecture Office’s most conceptually rigorous projects, exterior windows are isolated to opportunities where natural light and a connection to the outdoors is desired. The Monmouth home is clad in black corrugated metal, its exposed foundations extending from the earth to highlight its form.

Board and Batten Hardy siding pairs with black Marvin Windows to create a stunning renovation. The renovation includes a second story addition to increase the size and function of the home.

Another new design completed in Pascoe Vale South by our team. Creating this home is an exciting experience, where we blend the design with its existing fantastic site context, every angle from forest view is just breathtaking. Our Architecture design for this home puts emphasis on a modern Barn house, where we create a long rectangular form with a cantilevered balcony on 3rd Storey. Overall, the modern architecture form & material juxtaposed with the natural landscape, bringing the best living experience for our lovely client.
