- Dark green alcove hues to visually enhance the existing brick. Previously painted black, but has now been beautifully sandblasted and coated in a clear matt lacquer brick varnish to help minimise airborne loose material. - Various bricks were chopped out and replaced prior to work due to age related deterioration. - Dining room floor was previously original orange squared quarry tiles and soil. A damp proof membrane was installed to help enhance and retain heat during winter, whilst also minimising the risk of damp progressing. - Dining room floor finish was silver-lined with matt lacquered engineered wood panels. Engineered wood flooring is more appropriate for older properties due to their damp proof lining fused into the wood panel. - a course of bricks were chopped out spanning the length of the dining room from the exterior due to previous damp present. An extra 2 courses of engineered blue brick were introduced due to the exterior slope of the driveway. This has so far seen the damp disappear which allowed the room to be re-plastered and painted. - Original features previously removed from dining room were reintroduced such as coving, plaster ceiling rose and original 4 panel moulded doors.

We replaced the previous worn laminate flooring with grey-toned oak flooring. The oak floating shelving in the alcove above the stairwell provides a wonderful feature, adding additional storage and creating interest. Strip lighting was fitted into the ceiling joists on either side of the room to add light and warmth. The stunning bespoke oak handrail was coated in the same grey-tone stain as the wood flooring, as was the desk and alcove shelving, creating a cohesiveness in the space. Soft grey velvet curtains were fitted to bring softness and warmth to the room, allowing the view of The Thames and stunning natural light to shine in through the arched window. The soft organic colour palette added so much to the space, making it a lovely calm, welcoming room to be in, and working perfectly with the red of the brickwork and ceiling beams. We removed a previous half-wall that was the balustrade above the stairwell, replacing it with a stunning oak and iron spindle balustrade. The industrial style worked well with the rest of the flat, having exposed brickwork, timber ceiling beams and steel factory-style windows throughout. We replaced the previous worn laminate flooring with grey-toned oak flooring. A bespoke desk was fitted into the study nook, with iron hairpin legs to work with the other black fittings in the space. Soft grey velvet curtains were fitted to bring softness and warmth to the room, allowing the view of The Thames and stunning natural light to shine in through the arched window. The dining and kitchen spaces combine well in their finishes, with the dark, industrial touches resulting in a space that seamlessly flows. The bespoke open shelving at the junction of the dining and kitchen spaces creates a lovely feature for wine bottles, glasses and treasured items. The gorgeous curved handrail is a feature in itself, being created on site by a balustrade specialist, with the result being a lovely wrap around design that works beautifully in the space. ダイニングキッチンは家族がそろって向き合うスペース。食卓を囲んで会話がはずめば、食事もいっそうおいしく感じられることでしょう。日本の家庭では、リビングダイニングとしてまとめられている間取りも多いですが、食事をいただく場所ですので、いつも片付いていて清潔に保たれているようにしたいですね。特に、朝食・ランチ・ディナーすべてをダイニングキッチンでとるという方は、いっそうインテリアに力を入れたい場所です。ダイニングキッチンの多くがキッチンの隣に設置されている場合、デザインに統一感を持たせると空間がすっきりとした印象になります。

ダイニングキッチンのインテリアは“シンプル”が正解

ダイニングキッチンの主役は、ダイニングテーブルに乗る食事です。食事をおいしく食べる場所という役割が明確なダイニングキッチンのインテリアは実に悩ましいところです。例えば、レストランではフレンチ、イタリアン、和食、中華とジャンルごとにインテリアも食事に合わせてコーディネートしますが、一般の家庭では今日はイタリアン、今日は和食、とそのときどきによってメニューが変わるのでそうはいきません。なので、どんなものにも合わせやすい、シンプルめなダイニングキッチンインテリアで統一するのが正解。その代わり、ランチョンマットを食事によって変えたり、テーブルに季節の花などを飾ったりして、その料理を引き立たせ、かつ、ダイニングキッチンルームにアクセントを与えましょう。

ダイニングキッチンの照明の選び方

ダイニングキッチンでは照明も重要なポイント。食材をおいしそうに見せ、家族の“おいしい”顔をはっきり映す照明の選び方を知りましょう。ダイニングキッチンの照明は、発色をきれいに見せてくれる白熱球がおすすすめです。ダイニングキッチンは照明の使用時間も長いので、導入費用はかかれど寿命が長いLEDのタイプが人気です。特に、食欲をかき立てる“赤色”が鮮やかに見えます。また、陰影がはっきりするので立体感が出て、お料理をいっそう美しく、おいしそうに見せます。 さらに、ダイニングキッチンにペンダントライトを設置する際には、その高さもポイント。高すぎるとまぶしさを感じ、低すぎるとテーブルの端まで光が当たらず、影ができてしまい、せっかくの料理も引き立ちません。シェード（傘）とテーブルまでの距離は、60〜80cm程度はなれているのが理想です。また、バランスのよいシェードの大きさ（直径）はテーブルのサイズの1/3程度とされています。ダイニングキッチンの照明は、実際に設置やシミュレーションをしてみないと、明るさや光の届く範囲がなかなか想定できません。ダイニングキッチンの広さや間取り、自然光の入る窓の位置などを把握したうえで、照明の専門家に相談するのがおすすめです。
