Winter view from inside the main living pod, looking northwest through the walled courtyard over the water feature to the Outdoor Kitchen area. East and West Flex pods frame the view and sit 25'-0" away across teh granite pavers. All windows are Clad Ultimate Push-out casement by Marvin, and Swing Doors are also Clad Ultimate Swing by Marvin. Cladding is 20 gauge corrugated galvalume metal. Courtyard structure is all heavy guage steel frame and trusses with corrugated metal roof. Courtyard pavers and water feature coping are rough cut and smooth cut granite, respectively. Located on prestigious Strait Lane in Dallas, Texas, this regional contemporary residence nestles and wraps its roots throughout the mature oak trees, appearing as if it has been merged to this site for quite some time in this beautiful, unpredictable park-like setting. Conceived more similar to a loft type space rather than a traditional single family home, the homeowner was seeking to challenge a normal arrangement of rooms in favor of spaces that are dynamic in all 3 dimensions, interact with the yard, and capture the movement of light and air. As an artist that explores the beauty of natural objects and scenes, she tasked us with creating a building that was not precious - one that explores the essence of its raw building materials and is not afraid of expressing them as finished. We designed opportunities for kinetic fixtures, many built by the homeowner, to allow flexibility and movement. The result is a building that compliments the casual artistic lifestyle of the occupant as part home, part work space, part gallery. The spaces are interactive, contemplative, and fun. Just a few miles south of the Deer Valley ski resort is Brighton Estates, a community with summer vehicle access that requires a snowmobile or skis in the winter. This tiny cabin is just under 1000 SF of conditioned space and serves its outdoor enthusiast family year round. No space is wasted and the structure is designed to stand the harshest of storms.
