A newly renovated terrace in St Peters needed the final touches to really make this house a home, and one that was representative of it’s colourful owner. This very energetic and enthusiastic client definitely made the project one to remember. With a big brief to highlight the clients love for fashion, a key feature throughout was her personal ‘rock’ style. Pops of ‘rock' are found throughout and feature heavily in the luxe living areas with an entire wall designated to the clients icons including a lovely photograph of the her parents. The clients love for original vintage elements made it easy to style the home incorporating many of her own pieces. A custom vinyl storage unit finished with a Carrara marble top to match the new coffee tables, side tables and feature Tom Dixon bedside sconces, specifically designed to suit an ongoing vinyl collection. Along with clever storage solutions, making sure the small terrace house could accommodate her large family gatherings was high on the agenda. We created beautifully luxe details to sit amongst her items inherited which held strong sentimental value, all whilst providing smart storage solutions to house her curated collections of clothes, shoes and jewellery. Custom joinery was introduced throughout the home including bespoke bed heads finished in luxurious velvet and an excessive banquette wrapped in white Italian leather. Project: Residential interior refurbishment Site: Kensington, London  Designer: Deik (www.deik.co.uk) Photographer: Anna Stathaki Floral/prop stylish: Simone Bell We have also recently completed a commercial design project for Café Kitsuné in Pantechnicon (a Nordic-Japanese inspired shop, restaurant and café). Simplicity and understated luxury The property is a Grade II listed building in the Queen’s Gate Conservation area. It has been carefully refurbished to make the most out of its existing period features, with all structural elements and mechanical works untouched and preserved. The client asked for modest, understated modern luxury, and wanted to keep some of the family antique furniture. The flat has been transformed with the use of neutral, clean and simple elements that blend subtly with the architecture of the shell. Classic furniture and modern details complement and enhance one another. The focus in this project is on craftsmanship, handiwork and the use of traditional, natural, timeless materials. A mix of solid oak, stucco plaster, marble and bronze emphasize the building’s heritage. The raw stucco walls provide a simple, earthy warmth, referencing artisanal plasterwork. With its muted tones and rough-hewn simplicity, stucco is the perfect backdrop for the timeless furniture and interiors. Feature wall lights have been carefully placed to bring out the surface of the stucco, creating a dramatic feel throughout the living room and corridor. The bathroom and shower room employ subtle, minimal details, with elegant grey marble tiles and pale oak joinery creating warm, calming tones and a relaxed atmosphere.

主寝室のレイアウトで考えたいこと

おしゃれにしたい、かわいいファブリックを使いたい、落ち着いた雰囲気の空間にしたいなど、普段あまり人を招き入れることがないプライベートな主寝室に求める機能や条件はそれぞれあることでしょう。ただ、どんなレイアウトの主寝室であっても共通して言えることは、“なるべく部屋の構成要素を少なくする” ということです。寝る直前に情報が多すぎると脳が休まらず、快眠できないと言われていますが、主寝室のインテリアにおいても、そういった気遣いは必要になるでしょう。カラフルすぎる、あるいは柄がやけに目に留まる壁紙や、明るすぎる電気、ごちゃごちゃとした印象の乱雑なベッドルームでは、心も身体も休まるところがありません。迷いが生じたり、要素が多くなりそうになったら、シンプル・イズ・ベストの精神に立ち帰るのが基本となりそうです。 1R（ワンルーム）マンションでもプライベートなスペースは確保しておきたいもの。主寝室のレイアウトに間仕切りを用いることで人目につきにくくなります。天井の高さがある程度確保できれば、天蓋を使うという選択も部屋の印象をがらっと変える効果があります。採光も求めたいポイントのひとつ。朝の太陽の光は体をスッキリと目覚めさせる効果があると言われています。ただし、強すぎる光は暑さとの戦いになるので、遮光カーテンの導入や窓ガラスに工夫を施すといいでしょう。やわらかな陽の光を主寝室全体に取り入れられるよう、設計前に業者と相談できるといいですね。

主寝室の照明

主寝室の照明を暗めに設定する人が多いですが、いったい何ワットがベストなのでしょうか。一説には8畳の部屋でトータル260ワット程度の明るさが適していると言われているそうで、雑誌などを広げたときに無理なく読める程度の明るさが目安です。また、照明の色によっても部屋の印象は大きく異なります。色温度が低く温かみのあるオレンジ色の電球色は一日の終わりにぴったりな心を落ち着かせる効果が。家族と共有の主寝室であれば、先に寝ている人に対する配慮も必要です。主寝室の模様替えの際に、リモコンやスマートフォンアプリなどで、手元で調光できるような仕組みをリクエストしておくといいでしょう。シーリングライトだけでなく、スタンド式、壁掛け式などの間接照明や、調光器をうまく組み合わせて明るさを自在に調整し、さらなる快適な部屋づくりを目指しましょう。

好きな香りを寝室に

主寝室 (ベッドルーム) を真のやすらぎの空間にしたいのであれば、香りに気を使ってみるのもいいですね。ラベンダーやネロリ、スイート・オレンジの香りは、不安や緊張から心と身体をときほぐし、安眠効果をもたらします。キャンドルはうっかり消し忘れなどがあって危険なので、タイマー式や、熱源を使用しないアロマディヒューザーなどが重宝しそうです。日々のパフォーマンスに大きく影響する睡眠。快眠できない、ダルさが残るなどの不調を感じたらすぐに見なおすべき部屋が主寝室 (ベッドルーム) です。
