The dark blue walls in this traditional style bedroom provide a strong contrast to the gold sunburst mirror, original pitch pine floorboards, antique furniture and the custom built oak wardrobes. The Czech chandelier ensures there is enough bright light when needed, with table lamps for the evening. Antique gold velvet soft furnishings give it a rich luxurious look.

The award-winning Pennsylvania Room is a guest bedroom suite at Anderson House, headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati, the oldest continuing historical organization in the United States of America. Vintage open arm occasional chairs in a Philadelphia style were purchased and reupholstered in a Thibaut fabric. The custom quilted bedspread is also in a Thibaut fabric. The colors and style of the room were inspired by the portrait of Col. Edward Butler over the fireplace. Col. Butler was an officer in the Pennsylvania line, and one of the founding members of the Pennsylvania Society of the Cincinnati. This portrait is reproduced from an original larger portrait in the Anderson House collection, and custom framed. The Oriental rug was added to the room as a part of the redesign. Birch logs transform what had been a black hole of a fireplace, in black marble and original to the room, and add depth to the room. A Wedgwood Franklin blow, and commemorative plate with Philadelphia architectural landmarks help tell the story in this room. Bob Narod, Photographer, LLC

This gem on Minnehaha Parkway in Minneapolis features a seamless addition to a classic Tudor home. The scope of work included expanding a one-car garage into a two-car with plenty of storage, creating a primary bedroom above the garage and converting an existing bedroom into a primary bath to complete the suite. Architect: Brian Falk of Brickhouse Architects, Minneapolis. Photos by Greg Schmidt.

This award-winning guest bedroom project tells the story of Pennsylvania's role in the Revolutionary War. The quilted bedspread is in a Thibaut fabric, and has a reverse sham, sometimes called a French flap. Banding at the hem of the custom quilted bedspread, and on the leading edge of the draperies were inspired by the leather collar of the portrait opposite. A contrast welting defines the edge of the mattress and of the reverse sham. Two naval battles with a Pennsylvania connection were custom framed, and are shown to the right of the window, while an engraving of William Penn signing a treaty with the Indians, from the Anderson House museum collection, is above the bed. An embroidered pillow shows the seal of the Society of the Cincinnati. The small tables used as nightstands are from Maitland Smith, while the headboard and bed frame were found in a Pennsylvania antique store. The new wall color adds warmth and contrast to the linen white trim color. Bob Narod, Photographer, LLC

In the award winning Pennsylvania Room, vintage Chairs are in a Philadelphia style, reupholstered in a Thibaut crewel fabric. Because they have open legs instead of skirts, they help visually expand a modestly sized space. Art purchases include a print of George Washington at Valley Forge which was custom framed, and digitally reproduced maps of Colonial Pennsylvania, also framed for the space. Accessories include a Wedgwood Franklin bowl, and a plate with Philadelphia architectural landmarks. Birch logs add depth to the black marble fireplace, original to the house. A flat screen TV is on a hinged bracket, to allow guests to pull it out for better viewing. The colors of the room are inspired by the portrait of Col. Edward Butler, an officer of the Pennsylvania line. The new wall color adds warmth and contrast to the linen white trim color. Bob Narod, Photographer, LLC

This award-winning guest bedroom project now tells the story of Pennsylvania's role in the Revolutionary War. Chairs are in a Philadelphia style, reupholstered in a Thibaut crewel fabric. The window treatment, in a Thibaut jacquard woven fabric, with a tailored balloon shade in the same crewel fabric used on the chairs, is inspired by the uniform of the officer in the portrait over the fireplace (not seen here). The engraving of Benjamin Franklin is from the Anderson House collection. A Wedgwood Philadelphia Bowl on the antique dresser shows the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and Philadelphia landmarks. New Hunter Douglas Parkland wood blinds replaced mini-blinds. This bench, added to the Pennsylvania room for luggage use or seating, has a quotation from the Seal of the Society of the Cincinnati, custom embroidered. In Latin, the rough translation is "They gave all in the service of the Republic." The bench was found in an antique store in New Jersey. Bob Narod, Photographer, LLC
