Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!

Both the master bath and the guest bath were in dire need of a remodel. The guest bath was a much simpler project, basically replacing what was there in the same location with upgraded cabinets, tile, fittings fixtures and lighting. The most dramatic feature is the patterned floor tile and the navy blue painted ship lap wall behind the vanity. The master was another project. First, we enlarged the bathroom and an adjacent closet by straightening out the walls across the entire length of the bedroom. This gave us the space to create a lovely bathroom complete with a double bowl sink, medicine cabinet, wash let toilet and a beautiful shower.

In the kid’s bathroom, we wanted to keep it contemporary but also playful, which we achieved through the use of individual rhombus shaped tile pieces creating a tilted hexagon shaped floor and hexagon custom mirror. Lee & James wanted to update to their primary bathroom and ensuite closet. It was a small space that had a few pain points. The closet footprint was minimal and didn’t allow for sufficient organization of their wardrobe, a daily struggle for the couple. In addition, their ensuite bathroom had a shower that was petite, and the door from the bedroom was glass paned so it didn’t provide privacy. Also, the room had no bathtub – something they had desired for the ten years they’d lived in the home. The bedroom had an indent that took up much of one wall with a large wardrobe inside. Nice, but it didn’t take the place of a robust closet. The McAdams team helped the clients create a design that extended the already cantilevered area where the primary bathroom sat to give the room a little more square footage, which allowed us to include all the items the couple desired. The indent and wardrobe in the primary bedroom wall were removed so that the interior of the wall could be incorporated as additional closet space. New sconces were placed on either side of the bed, and a ceiling fan was added overhead for ultimate comfort on warm summer evenings. The former closet area was repurposed to create the couple’s new and improved (and now much larger) shower. Beautiful Bianco St. Croix tile was installed on the walls and floor of the shower and a frameless glass door highlighting the fabulous Brizo rainshower head and Delta adjustable handheld showerhead all combine to provide the ultimate showering experience. A gorgeous walnut vanity with a Calacutta Gold Honed Marble slab top (that coordinates with the kitchen) replaced the old cabinet. A matte black Pottery Barn Vintage Pill Shaped Mirror was placed above the undermount sink, while a striking LED pendant serves as the main light source. The newly added square footage allows for a Victoria and Albert stand-alone soaking tub with an adjacent towel warmer, all of which almost makes you forget you’re in a home and not a high-end spa. Finally, just past the new Toto toilet with bidet, the couple got their new, large walk-in closet with customized storage solutions for their individual needs. The transformation absolutely helped Lee and James love their home again!

We gave this dated and choppy bathroom an open layout with classic timeless design with marble-look tile and chrome fixtures. The clawfoot tub with a gooseneck spout replaced their dated jacuzzi corner tub. We removed a wall and installed a pocket door to maximize the space and give them a larger shower. We incorporated plenty of storage with a double vanity and two tall towers to fit their laundry hampers. Nancy Knickerbocker of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Southern Pines, NC collaborated with Tod Reid to design a transitional styled inspired a primary and guest bathroom featuring Masterpiece and Ultracraft cabinetry. For the primary bathroom, the vanity cabinets are Masterpiece in the Martel door style in Maple with a Shortbread finish, complimented by Silestone Calacatta Gold countertops. A linen cabinet in Ultracraft in the Avon door style with a Moon Bay finish completes the design. The primary bathroom also includes a Tile Inc. Glacier Wave Gloss shower wall tile and Bakersfield Pumice bath and shower floor tile. The guest bathroom vanity cabinets are Masterpiece in the Ganon door style with a Dove White finish complemented with Silestone Miami White countertops. The design also includes Watercolors O'Keefe shower wall tile, Canvas White Subway wall end tile and Bakersfield Pumice bath and shower floor tile. Both bathrooms feature Kohler plumbing fixtures and accessories. "I enjoyed working with these clients. They had clear goals for their projects, and I believe we achieved them! In the primary bath, we enlarged the shower by removing a garden tub. Opting for large glass panels highlights the wave tile and creates an open feel. We also replaced the water closet door with a knee wall for privacy and replaced the linen closet with colorful cabinetry, making the space more functional. The tall cabinet on the left now includes two laundry hampers, and the black hardware ties everything together nicely," said Nancy. "The guest bathroom, located just off the main living area, sees frequent use. We replaced the existing tub/shower combination with a shower only.
