Well, how about a tropical themed bath that works year round? The goal of this bath was just that, to bring some fun, whimsy and tropical vibes! We started out by making some updates to the built in bookcase leading into the bath. It got an easy update by removing all the stained trim and creating a simple arched opening with a few floating shelves for a much cleaner and up-to-date look. We love the simplicity of this arch in the space. Now, into the bathroom design. Our client fell in love with this beautiful handmade tile featuring tropical birds and flowers and featuring bright, vibrant colors. We played off the tile to come up with the pallet for the rest of the space. The cabinetry and trim is a custom teal-blue paint that perfectly picks up on the blue in the tile. The gold hardware, lighting and mirror also coordinate with the colors in the tile. Because the house is a 1930’s tudor, we played homage to that by using a simple black and white hex pattern on the floor and retro style hardware that keep the whole space feeling vintage appropriate. We chose a wall mount unpolished brass hardware faucet which almost gives the feel of a tropical fountain. It just works. The arched mirror continues the arch theme from the bookcase. For the shower, we chose a coordinating antique white tile with the same tropical tile featured in a shampoo niche where we carefully worked to get a little bird almost standing on the niche itself. We carried the gold fixtures into the shower, and instead of a shower door, the shower features a simple hinged glass panel that is easy to clean and allows for easy access to the shower controls. When a large family renovated a home nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, all bathrooms received dazzling upgrades and this master bathroom was no exception. The spacious room faces a private yard with an abundance of greenery and views of the foothills, so I chose light, cool colors and organic materials to reference the beauty just outside. We chose an elegantly curved freestanding bath tub which echoes the beautiful, sinuous twists of the tub filler and sink faucets. I worked with my client to create a massive steam shower lined with porcelain tile that mimics marble, a much more durable and steam-friendly material than porous marble. A grand custom vanity spans one half of the bathroom and features a seated make-up area. For the vanity lighting, my client fell in love with pendants that look as if they are faceted jewels. We continued the "Flat White" throughout the home and into the master bath. The inspiration was the herringbone marble tile. The bathroom is a large one with lots of room for a soaking tub and walk in shower complete with a heated floor, lighted mirrors, and a garage door style cabinet area for those items you need plugged in but don't want to see!

Peaceful master bathroom in whites and grays featuring marble accent tile on the floor, flushmount medicine cabinets, and polished nickel hardware and plumbing.

This was a fun renovation, the clients wanted two incorporate some soft tones into the space, while also having colour and texture. We did a fun feature wall for the master bedroom, adding in the pop of yellow in the chairs. For the master bath, we mixed black and brass fixtures, along with a soft grey vanity, and utilizing our clients plants created a fun pop of pink that works perfectly in the space!

A Portland guest bath uses a playful black and white floor tile to create a fun space. The flush panel vanity cabinet drawers, painted in Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore, contrast the sleek white quartz countertop and Alabaster wall color.

DGI was able to achieve a luxurious feel without compromising our client’s modern aesthetic through an elevated platform that allowed us to design a wet area for the shower and free-standing tub. It was designed to feel like one, continuous space, so we installed a single fixed-glass panel in the shower area for the most minimal look. Rather than a niche, we opted for one continuous ledge along the back wall for bath soaps and other shower products.
