I want to be in this room!

Was finding steel contractors to do a residential project difficult? I’m assuming a home is much smaller project than they are accustomed to doing and residential outdoor space much smaller to manage their materials during a build? I have a lowland home project that I think steel beams could add strength and protection to any possible flood event. Getting people to do the works seems I might have a challenge there.

But seriously, the fire, steel, wood, glass and stone, it make a spectacularly drop dead gorgeous room.

Even thought the steel had a major impact on the design of this space, it was rather easy to specify and install. The majority of the house was constructed with wood framing, however the client wanted an industrial feel in the two story dining room. We had our structural engineer specify the steel beams per the size we had in mind and they were installed by the general contractor. Nothing really special about the installation since they were fairly light beams.
