lighting fixture above table with or without leaf?

We are hanging a new lighting fixture above our dining room table. The table has a leaf which will be used when we are entertaining for holidays, so not often. Do I center the lighting fixture above the table with or without the leaf?

There is a wall/window at one end, so we can't back up into that too far. Room has sloped ceilings and opens into living room. Pics are without leaf. Ignore the ugly temporary chairs and carpet!

I'd center it without the leaf, as that is how you will most often view it.

You center it to the size it will be in most often. You need a larger light fixture and it needs to hang a little lower :-)

It may open onto the living room.......but I would look into moving the light box to accommodate the table size WITH the leaf, and repair and paint the ceiling. Before I hung it.
