Furniture wood colors

I'm in the process of buying all new living room furniture. My hardwood floors are a dark brown. I bought a beautiful Lexington chair with light wood and cane backing. Do all the other pieces of furniture have to be light wood or can I mix and match lights and dark? I'm trying to get away from the matchy matchy sets, but I'm not sure what direction to go.

Absolutely, you can mix wood tones, in fact, lighter woods on a dark floor would be better defined and more interesting. Try and repeat each wood tone used at least twice. Have fun!

The variation between pieces that people acquire over time is one of the things that give a room it's charm and personality.

RJ Austin Design.....I need two end tables, a coffee table and an entertainment unit. Is it ok to get the entertainment piece in darker wood and the coffee and end table in lighter wood? I can't seem to find an entertainment unit in light wood.
