Thank you for inquiring about our installation. As can be seen from this picture, we are not "attached" at the bottom. However, we are attached on three sides, with a mechanical attachment (the clamps) at each vertical edge. If the glass is not set into a base at the bottom, we would - ideally - like to have attachment at each vertical and the upper horizontal. Thus, a permanent base is not required.
