Goals The clients main goal was more space. They desired a new kitchen that was large enough to fit their growing family and to update other rooms in their home to fit their contemporary style. Our Design Solution In order to enlarge the kitchen, we had to build a new addition. The original kitchen was just too small and had no where to expand to within the house. With moving the entire kitchen into the addition, there was now room to create a mudroom and a new bathroom. Above the new kitchen, we gave the client a new master suite. We used white cabinets, a custom wood counter, and gray back splash tile, to give the kitchen the contemporary feel the clients were seeking. C.J South Photography

(Media, PA) - Using the space formerly occupied by the family room, Gardner/Fox removed an interior wall to double the size of the existing kitchen. The expanded kitchen accommodates a large central island, white cabinetry, semi-professional appliances, oak flooring, and a casual breakfast area. The aforementioned family room found a new home in a seldom-used screened in porch that was enclosed with fantastic new windows. Expanding the kitchen without a costly addition, allowed the client to invest money in a small addition to the rear of the home for the new family room in the former screen-in porch, which also inclucd updates to the home's exterior. The result: plenty of bang for their buck!

A big goal of this lakehouse design was to provide ample storage space so that all the day-to-day items can be put away out of sight. In the kitchen, paneled appliances create a streamlined look. Along the refrigerator wall, floor-to-ceiling inset cabinets painted Glacier white on maple open to reveal many compartments. Our client approached us while he was in the process of purchasing his ½ lot detached unit in Hermosa Beach. He was drawn to a design / build approach because although he has great design taste, as a busy professional he didn’t have the time or energy to manage every detail involved in a home remodel. The property had been used as a rental unit and was in need of TLC. By bringing us onto the project during the purchase we were able to help assess the true condition of the home. Built in 1976, the 894 sq. ft. home had extensive termite and dry rot damage from years of neglect. The project required us to reframe the home from the inside out. To design a space that your client will love you really need to spend time getting to know them. Our client enjoys entertaining small groups. He has a custom turntable and considers himself a mixologist. We opened up the space, space-planning for his custom turntable, to make it ideal for entertaining. The wood floor is reclaimed wood from manufacturing facilities. The reframing work also allowed us to make the roof a deck with an ocean view. The home is now a blend of the latest design trends and vintage elements and our client couldn’t be happier! This beautiful kitchen was refaced with white laminate and walnut butcher block for a striking transformation. The homeowners kept their granite countertops throughout the rest of the kitchen, but added a contrasting wooden surface on their island. The island improved seating by extending the walnut butcher block and adding two decorative legs. The corner cabinet got a significant upgrade with glass shelves and internal lighting behind a glass mullein door. Behind cabinet doors, an array of optimizers like a tip out tray, trash and recycling pull out and 2 roll out shelves improve the room’s functionality.
