The white marble countertops and expansive island allow for plenty of workspace while the island extends allowing for comfortable, custom upholstered bar seats to be tucked underneath. The carved corbels lifting the island and vent hood display exquisite baroque detail. The glass tiled backsplash seamlessly integrates into the countertop letting the detailed ironwork to be proudly displayed.

The island is stained walnut. The cabinets are glazed paint. The gray-green hutch has copper mesh over the doors and is designed to appear as a separate free standing piece. Small appliances are behind the cabinets at countertop level next to the range. The hood is copper with an aged finish. The wall of windows keeps the room light and airy, despite the dreary Pacific Northwest winters! The fireplace wall was floor to ceiling brick with a big wood stove. These homeowners came to us seeking a kitchen remodel that would deliver an updated look and increase the kitchen’s overall functionality. They had a clear vision of what they wanted, and we loved working with them to make the transformation a reality. A change that instantly made the kitchen feel more contemporary was bringing the cabinets up to the ceiling. We chose a tranquil gray for the island cabinetry to add depth to the overall white aesthetic and classic shaker cabinets. A white backsplash tile and some glass front cabinets make the space feel even lighter and brighter. The countertop is a sophisticated white quartz with gray veining. One complaint the owner had about their original kitchen was the lack of storage space for pots and pans. To address this, we incorporated large, heavy-duty drawers on either side of the cooktop. This is the optimal placement for usage and easily brings all the cookware into view, rather than being lost in a deep cabinet. One handy feature they now enjoy is a custom charging drawer at the end of the island which provides easy access to frequently used electronics without cluttering the countertop. Below the drawer is open shelving that adds charming visual interest and provides the ideal spot to store cookbooks. Even without drastic layout changes, the transformation is stunning! The contrast between the light cabinets and the hardwood floor is eye-catching without being overly dramatic and the simple hardware and fixtures give it a fresh look. This kitchen is one that is sure to be loved for years to come.

The decision to keep the original cabinet boxes meant simply replacing the cabinet drawers and drawer fronts for a refreshing transformation. The porcelain tile floor has the unmistakable look of brick without the struggle to keep it clean. New appliances, stylish range hood, and a new cabinet box for the refrigerator. A custom island located in the original dining nook satisfies the client's number one request, providing a place to drink wine and make cookies.

The original kitchen was dated and small for the homeowner’s large family. Space was a top priority for our clients, so to give them some much-needed room to spread out, we tore down the walls enclosing the kitchen and shifted it to where the dining room once stood. This allowed us to design a massive kitchen island, ensuring all family members fit comfortably. First, we painted the cabinets a calming green. Then, we mixed materials throughout the kitchen for an eclectic, collected look. Looking closely, you’ll see we mixed wood tones. We used a natural oak on the floor and a coffee stain on the cabinets, island, and table. We also mixed metals, a characteristic in many of our designs. In the kitchen, we used black, polished nickel, and gold. When mixing metals, we strive to achieve a ping-pong effect, purposefully skipping materials so the eye moves effortlessly around the room. For example, we placed gold wall sconces above the sink and gold hardware on the cabinets below, using polished nickel on the faucet in between the two. To further play off French country design, we laid a brick-shaped tile in a soft, subtle neutral tone. Real brick would have been too red and harsh in this space, so we went with a milder approach. Complimenting the tile, we also mixed standard shaker cabinet fronts with slim shaker insets for a soft, elegant detail.
