This large open concept kitchen and dining space was created by removing a load bearing wall between the old kitchen and a porch area. The new porch was insulated and incorporated into the overall space. The kitchen remodel was part of a whole house remodel so new quarter sawn oak flooring, a vaulted ceiling, windows and skylights were added.
A large calcutta marble topped island takes center stage. It houses a 5’ galley workstation - a sink that provides a convenient spot for prepping, serving, entertaining and clean up. A 36” induction cooktop is located directly across from the island for easy access. Two appliance garages on either side of the cooktop house small appliances that are used on a daily basis.
Honeycomb tile by Ann Sacks and open shelving along the cooktop wall add an interesting focal point to the room. Antique mirrored glass faces the storage unit housing dry goods and a beverage center. “I chose details for the space that had a bit of a mid-century vibe that would work well with what was originally a 1950s ranch. Along the way a previous owner added a 2nd floor making it more of a Cape Cod style home, a few eclectic details felt appropriate”, adds Klimala.
The wall opposite the cooktop houses a full size fridge, freezer, double oven, coffee machine and microwave. “There is a lot of functionality going on along that wall”, adds Klimala. A small pull out countertop below the coffee machine provides a spot for hot items coming out of the ovens.
The rooms creamy cabinetry is accented by quartersawn white oak at the island and wrapped ceiling beam. The golden tones are repeated in the antique brass light fixtures.
“This is the second kitchen I’ve had the opportunity to design for myself. My taste has gotten a little less traditional over the years, and although I’m still a traditionalist at heart, I had some fun with this kitchen and took some chances. The kitchen is super functional, easy to keep clean and has lots of storage to tuck things away when I’m done using them. The casual dining room is fabulous and is proving to be a great spot to linger after dinner. We love it!”

WC Design CenterTwist on a Mid-century Modern & a Classic galley style space. We decided to open up the kitchen by introducing a large 7 foot bay window to let in the light and make the space feel big and bright. We adjusted all the appliance locations for function and beauty and added a dramatic octagon style large format tile floor to again enhance the space. My FAVORITE detail is the brick full height backsplash running all the way up above cabinets, maximizing every square inch of space with detail. A custom hood, open shelving, and the sconce lights really set this kitchen apart with every detail.

EmV Design BuildRobin Stancliff photo credits. This kitchen had a complete transformation, and now it is beautiful, bright, and much
more accessible! To accomplish my goals for this kitchen, I had to completely demolish
the walls surrounding the kitchen, only keeping the attractive exposed load bearing
posts and the HVAC system in place. I also left the existing pony wall, which I turned
into a breakfast area, to keep the electric wiring in place. A challenge that I
encountered was that my client wanted to keep the original Saltillo tile that gives her
home it’s Southwestern flair, while having an updated kitchen with a mid-century
modern aesthetic. Ultimately, the vintage Saltillo tile adds a lot of character and interest
to the new kitchen design. To keep things clean and minimal, all of the countertops are
easy-to-clean white quartz. Since most of the cooking will be done on the new
induction stove in the breakfast area, I added a uniquely textured three-dimensional
backsplash to give a more decorative feel. Since my client wanted the kitchen to be
disability compliant, we put the microwave underneath the counter for easy access and
added ample storage space beneath the counters rather than up high. With a full view
of the surrounding rooms, this new kitchen layout feels very open and accessible. The
crisp white cabinets and wall color is accented by a grey island and updated lighting
throughout. Now, my client has a kitchen that feels open and easy to maintain while
being safe and useful for people with disabilities.

Simply Home DecoratingOur goal on this project was to make the main floor of this lovely early 20th century home in a popular Vancouver neighborhood work for a growing family of four. We opened up the space, both literally and aesthetically, with windows and skylights, an efficient layout, some carefully selected furniture pieces and a soft colour palette that lends a light and playful feel to the space. Our clients can hardly believe that their once small, dark, uncomfortable main floor has become a bright, functional and beautiful space where they can now comfortably host friends and hang out as a family. Live Well Remodeling And ConstructionWe upgraded this 1950s home in the lovely neighborhood of Sherman Oaks. We fully remodeled the kitchen, two bathrooms, a dining room, and bedroom. We installed new vinyl wood flooring, painted the entire home, finished the exposed beams with dark glossy finished. The home has a cool modern farmhouse style throughout the house.

April L Interior Designhe 1968 kitchen remodel started with a broken refrigerator. Modern fridges just didn't fit in the space. The couple was holding out to replace the dated laminate cabinets until then. April L Interior Design completely redesigned the layout to make it open to the family room. The couple loves to entertain family and friends and wanted a space that would allow everyone to cook and eat together. The floor was a big issue because the tile was installed over the existing vinyl. The solution was to tear out the existing and replace it with matching hardwood oak. All of the hardwood was sanded down and finished with a solid grey stain. You cannot see the difference between the new and old oak floors. Splashes of color show the young couple's personality. Everything was picked to be functional and durable for kids and pets. Making the design of the home Mid-century really felt like bringing it back to its roots. Old family furniture was given a modern update with a coat of paint. This house was made for living comfortably.
Allen Irvin - Designerthe kitchen is so central to the family interaction so it had to be special with all around views. the corner windows and large sink window at counter height give an uninterupted view to kids playing outside at the driveway. thelight fixture rather than recessed light at the sink gives some style.
