We recently took on an exciting whole-home renovation for this lovely historic Trinity in Center City Philadelphia. Originally built in the mid-1800s, the house footprint is just over 17’ x 13’. As is typical of this type of 3-story house, the kitchen is located in the basement, making this house four floors of occupied space with overall square footage totaling just under 900 square feet. The homeowner felt the former kitchen was cramped, dimly lit, and inefficiently designed, and she was in search of help in bringing her artistic vision for the space to life, blending both old and new elements through an exciting mix of textures and character. High on her priority list was integrating her wonderful collection of objects gathered from her travels around the world. We brought our design skills and construction experience to the team, working with the homeowner and the designer to develop a host of creative solutions, including the installation of an Indonesian screen as a sliding door covering a newly reconfigured utility area, which includes a new on-demand hot water heater, mounted next to a new electrical panel with ample room for service and access. La rénovation de cet appartement familial était pleine de défis à relever ! Nous devions relier 2 appartements et nous retrouvions donc avec 2 cuisines et 2 salles de bain. Nous avons donc pu agrandir une cuisine et transformer l’autre en chambre parentale. L’esprit était de créer du rangement tout en gardant une entrée ouverte sur la grande pièce de vie. Un grand placard sur mesure prend donc place et s’associe avec un claustra en bois ouvrant sur la cuisine. Les tons clairs comme le blanc, le bois et le vert sauge de la cuisine permettent d’apporter de la lumière a cet appartement sur cour. On retrouve également cette palette de couleurs dans la salle de bain et la chambre d’enfant. Lors de la phase de démolition, nous nous sommes retrouvés avec beaucoup de tuyauterie et vannes apparentes au milieu des pièces. Il a fallu en prendre compte lors de la conception et trouver le moyen de les dissimuler au mieux. Nous avons donc créé un coffrage au-dessus du lit de la chambre parentale, ou encore un faux-plafond dans la cuisine pour tout cacher !

Так как владелец квартиры изначально отдавал предпочтение скандинавскому стилю, отделку подбирали соответствующую. Столешница гарнитура — из шпона натурального дуба, такой выбор сделан намеренно, несмотря на то, что дерево в интерьере кухни многим кажется не практичным. Да, у него возможны и трещинки, и потертости, и выгореть оно может. Но в этом прелесть натурального дерева.

This small house needed a makeover to be suitable for a family of four, therefore the original layout has been changed in such way that the hall entrance and kitchen are fully optimized spaces. We opted for a glass brick wall to let the light flow between the entrance and kitchen and maximize perception of space, on both sides. All furniture in the hall area and in the kitchen goes up to the ceiling in order to create extra storage space, whilst in the living room there is large storage space under the stairs, without taking any space from the room. What is left in sight is light, airy furniture in white and woody textures and a touch of green moss used as decoration.
