The Sonoma Farmhaus project was designed for a cycling enthusiast with a globally demanding professional career, who wanted to create a place that could serve as both a retreat of solitude and a hub for gathering with friends and family. Located within the town of Graton, California, the site was chosen not only to be close to a small town and its community, but also to be within cycling distance to the picturesque, coastal Sonoma County landscape. Taking the traditional forms of farmhouse, and their notions of sustenance and community, as inspiration, the project comprises an assemblage of two forms - a Main House and a Guest House with Bike Barn - joined in the middle by a central outdoor gathering space anchored by a fireplace. The vision was to create something consciously restrained and one with the ground on which it stands. Simplicity, clear detailing, and an innate understanding of how things go together were all central themes behind the design. Solid walls of rammed earth blocks, fabricated from soils excavated from the site, bookend each of the structures. According to the owner, the use of simple, yet rich materials and textures...“provides a humanness I’ve not known or felt in any living venue I’ve stayed, Farmhaus is an icon of sustenance for me".

1915 Craftsman Restoration. Custom built cherry shaker cabinets, wavy blue glass uppers, porcelain apron sink and eco Paperstone countertops. Restored Wedgewood gas stove. Vertical grain fir trim and flooring in home. Fully redesigned floorplan, gutted and restored to period character with modern amenities, efficiency and conveniences.

A warm contemporary plan, with a distinctive stairwell tower. They chose us because of the variety of styles we’ve built in the past, the other satisfied clients they spoke with, and our transparent financial reporting throughout the building process. Positioned on the site for privacy and to protect the natural vegetation, it was important that all the details—including disability access throughout. A professional lighting designer specified all-LED lighting. Energy-efficient geothermal HVAC, expansive windows, and clean, finely finished details. Built on a sloped lot, the 3,300-sq.-ft. home appears modest in size from the driveway, but the expansive, finished lower level, with ample windows, offers several useful spaces, for everyday living and guest quarters. Contemporary exterior features a custom milled front entry & nickel gap vertical siding. Unique, 17'-tall stairwell tower, with plunging 9-light LED pendant fixture. Custom, handcrafted concrete hearth spans the entire fireplace. Lower level includes an exercise room, outfitted for an Endless Pool. Parade of Homes Tour Silver Medal award winner.

This warm and inviting kitchen and family room feature a stacked stone fireplace facade with a custom mantel. The entertainment center features glass shelves and lighting to display collectibles. The warm golden beige paint color adds warmth. The kitchen features a large island that seats five and a farmhouse sink. A built-in secretary desk adds interest as well as being a great place to use a laptop.

Beautiful marbled glass pendants add drama. The Caesarstone countertops are accented by a tile backsplash that features subway tiles, square tiles, and glass mosaic tiles. Glass doors allow for display of collectible glass. The wasabi coloed island contrasts with the mocha maple stained cabinets.
