Our goal was to complete the project prior to baby’s arrival so this project went on the expedite track. The beautiful 1920’s era brick home sits on a hill in a very picturesque neighborhood, so we were eager to give it the kitchen it deserves. The clients’ dream kitchen included pro-style appliances, a large island with seating for five and a kitchen that feels appropriate to the home’s era but that also is fresh and modern. They explicitly stated they did not want a “cookie cutter” design, so we took that to heart. The key challenge was to fit in all of the items on their wish given the room’s constraints. We eliminated an existing breakfast area and bay window and incorporated that area into the kitchen. The bay window was bricked in, and to compensate for the loss of seating, we widened the opening between the kitchen and formal dining room for more of an open concept plan. The ceiling in the original kitchen is about a foot lower than the rest of the house, and once it was determined that it was to hide pipes and other mechanicals, we reframed a large tray over the island and left the rest of the ceiling as is. Clad in walnut planks, the tray provides an interesting feature and ties in with the custom walnut and plaster hood. The space feels modern yet appropriate to its Tudor roots. The room boasts large family friendly appliances, including a beverage center and cooktop/double oven combination. Soft white inset cabinets paired with a slate gray island provide a gentle backdrop to the multi-toned island top, a color echoed in the backsplash tile. The handmade subway tile has a textured pattern at the cooktop, and large pendant lights add more than a bit of drama to the room. When designing this kitchen update and addition, Phase One had to keep function and style top of mind, all the time. The homeowners are masters in the kitchen and also wanted to highlight the great outdoors and the future location of their pool, so adding window banks were paramount, especially over the sink counter. The bathrooms renovations were hardly a second thought to the kitchen; one focuses on a large shower while the other, a stately bathtub, complete with frosted glass windows Stylistic details such as a bright red sliding door, and a hand selected fireplace mantle from the mountains were key indicators of the homeowners trend guidelines. Storage was also very important to the client and the home is now outfitted with 12.

Even interior designers need help when it comes to designing kitchen cabnetry. Lauren of Lauren Maggio Interiors solicited the help of RED PEPPER for layout and cabinetry design while she selected all of the finishes. New Orleans classicism and modern color combine to create a warm family space. The kitchen, banquette and dinner table and family room are all one space so cabinets were made to look like furniture. The space must function for a young family of six, which it does, and must hide countertop appliances (behind the doors on the left) and be compatable with entertaining in the large open room. A butler's pantry and scheduling desk connect the kitchen to the dining room.

This beautiful kitchen design with a gray-magenta palette, luxury appliances, and versatile islands perfectly blends elegance and modernity. Plenty of functional countertops create an ideal setting for serious cooking. A second large island is dedicated to a gathering space, either as overflow seating from the connected living room or as a place to dine for those quick, informal meals. Some great rooms are really great! This one features a large taupe grey island with raised bar seating, Off white perimeter cabinets and sturdy utilitarian stools, hardware and light fixtures. The look is eclectic transitional. An intentional cornflower blue accent color is used for glass subway back splash tile, patio door, rugs, and accessories to connect and balance this expansive cheerful space where an active family of seven, occupy every square inch of space. A more useful family dining/breakfast space was created by removing two interior walls. Recessed LED lighting illuminates different parts of the kitchen while also saving energy. An Aga cooker was a “must have” to fulfill the dynamic lifestyle of the family.
