The completely remodeled kitchen is now the focal point of the home. The modern concrete countertops, subway tiles and unique custom cabinets add clean lines and are complemented by the warm and rustic reclaimed wood open shelving. Made with beech and birch wood, the flush inset cabinets feature unique routed pulls and a beaded face frame. The functional butcher block topped island is on wheels and contains several storage drawers.

Here is an image of the kitchen in the ECO Rehabarama house. I designed the u-shaped kitchen and the contractors for the project made the cabinetry out of reclaimed lumber. Concrete counter-tops were used in the kitchen and unstained oak flooring was installed throughout the house. Crate & Barrel loaned most of the furnishings for the space but I also incorporated a few vintage items of my own into the decor. Photo by Bealer Photographic Arts.

Le projet : Un studio de 30m2 défraîchi avec une petite cuisine fermée à l’ancienne et une salle de bains usée. Des placards peu pratiques et une électricité à remettre aux normes. La propriétaire souhaite remettre l’ensemble à neuf de manière optimale pour en faire son pied à terre parisien. Notre solution : Nous allons supprimer une partie des murs côté cuisine et placard. De cette façon nous allons créer une belle cuisine ouverte avec îlot central et rangements. Un grand cube menuisé en bois permet de cacher intégralement le réfrigérateur côté cuisine et un dressing avec penderies et tablettes coulissantes, côté salon. Une chambre est créée dans l’espace avec verrière et porte métallique coulissante. La salle de bains est refaite intégralement avec baignoire et plan vasque sur-mesure permettant d’encastrer le lave-linge. Electricité et chauffage sont refait à neuf.

This contemporary kitchen takes the meaning of custom to another level. The display nooks built into the cabinets are something a little different but what makes the cabinets so special is that they were designed and built so that the grain of the wood was continuous from one door or drawer front to the next. This project questions the need for excessive space and challenges occupants to be efficient. Two shipping containers saddlebag a taller common space that connects local rock outcroppings to the expansive mountain ridge views. The containers house sleeping and work functions while the center space provides entry, dining, living and a loft above. The loft deck invites easy camping as the platform bed rolls between interior and exterior. The project is planned to be off-the-grid using solar orientation, passive cooling, green roofs, pellet stove heating and photovoltaics to create electricity.

Birch Plywood Kitchen with exposed plywood edges with two large drawers with recessed J handles and a stainless steel recessed kick board. The worktop is concrete with geometric tiles forming a splash back with a floating plywood shelf with LED lights above it. A variety of decorative accessories, plants and artwork sit on the floating shelf. The walls are painted in Dulux Garden Grey. A toy Plywood oven and washing machine sit next to the cabinets. We stripped out an unoriginal old kitchen and rebuilt with the aim of restoring the soul--and function--of this 1940s "Cape Cod" home. Instead of a literal "retro" kitchen, we went for something more timeless, while a few 1940s motifs (Marmoleum flooring, cabinetry pulls and lighting) root the remodel in its origins. North American maple cabinetry in a natural finish adds warmth, durability, and brightness. Photos by Matt Niebuhr.

High function for an avid cook: storage, durability and enough beauty to be sitting in the living room. High gloss foil sets the deep blue island apart as in inviting place to hang out.

Birch Plywood Kitchen with exposed plywood edges and recessed J handles with a floating plywood shelf that sits above a splash back of geometric tiles. Plants, decorative and kitchen accessories sit on the shelf. The movable plywood island is on large orange castors and has a stainless steel worktop and contains a single oven and induction hob. The perimeter run of cabinets has a concrete worktop and houses the sink and tall integrated fridge/freezer and slimline full height larder with internal pull out drawers. These concrete counters sit on custom European style cabinets with long metal pulls. Blue and brown glass subway tiles are a bold finish the wall and back-splash. Small blue glass tiles are inlay, proud of the surface to act as a duvet. The under-mount stainless steel sink features sponge parking and a maple cutting board inset in the counter to cover a drain area under.
