Birchwood Construction had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Lee Architects to revitalize this beautiful waterfront cottage. Located in the historic Belvedere Club community, the home's exterior design pays homage to its original 1800s grand Southern style. To honor the iconic look of this era, Birchwood craftsmen cut and shaped custom rafter tails and an elegant, custom-made, screen door. The home is framed by a wraparound front porch providing incomparable Lake Charlevoix views. The interior is embellished with unique flat matte-finished countertops in the kitchen. The raw look complements and contrasts with the high gloss grey tile backsplash. Custom wood paneling captures the cottage feel throughout the rest of the home. Located next to Chicago's iconic Drake Hotel in the Drake Tower, this 2-bedroom pied-à-terre received a comprehensive renovation, with architecture and interior design by Michael Howells. Appointments are colorful and fresh, but also evoke the Drake’s classic origins, aiming to strike a timeless balance between contemporary and traditional. Our design team wanted to achieve a Pacific Northwest transitional contemporary home with a bit of nautical feel to the exterior. We mixed organic elements throughout the house to tie the look all together, along with white cabinets in the kitchen. For this space, we focused on family entertainment. With lots of storage for games, books, and movies, a space dedicated to pastimes like ping pong! A wet bar for easy entertainment for all ages. Fun under the stairs wine storage. And lastly, a big bathroom with extra storage and a big walk-in shower.

What started as a kitchen and two-bathroom remodel evolved into a full home renovation plus conversion of the downstairs unfinished basement into a permitted first story addition, complete with family room, guest suite, mudroom, and a new front entrance. We married the midcentury modern architecture with vintage, eclectic details and thoughtful materials.
