The farmhouse kitchen design has been popular for years. Who doesn’t love the downhome feel of a rustic and cozy space? This Pennsylvania family’s kitchen exemplifies everything wonderful about this style. Their kitchen has an allure that draws you in and details that invite you to stay. Tearing out the old, outdated cabinets and replacing them with custom updates was the way to go. While they loved the classic farmhouse style, they were seeking a cabinet door design that would stand the test of time. White Shaker on the perimeter cabinets and Colonial Blue cabinetry on the island, making a beautiful distinction from the white perimeter. They have just listed this home, too, having found the equestrian property of their dreams. What will we cook up next? I think I've created a monster...

Character and charm are abundant in this main floor remodel. The home edged toward a traditional style going in and we chose to honor this feel and carry it throughout while updating the space. From a space-planning perspective, the first volley was to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room and let the light shine in. And shine in it does! The numerous windows stayed in place and now do their job allowing light to flow from room to room. Those very windows are trimmed in natural white oak and paired with arched wood-cased openings to add warmth to the scene. Wood beams between the kitchen and the family room and new stone on the fireplace add a nuanced rustic touch while keeping with the overall feel of the home. These organic elements beautifully offset the crisp whites and blues found everywhere you look. A patterned tile offers visual interest in the backsplash and travels from the counters to the ceiling bringing the eye with it. Orb-like woven pendant lights lend texture and interest to the marble topped island and brushed gold accent task lighting hangs above the apron sink. When a traditional style is held in high regard, and implemented well, it is nothing short of priceless.

Updating Process: > Prepare/Demo: Protect flooring and furniture with plastic. Remove: flooring, fixtures, countertops and cabinets, vent hood ,stove, ceiling light boxes. Tape, float, and texture area as needed. Haul off all debris. > Construct, paint, and install new wall, soft-close cabinets. Install door and drawer pulls. > Construct, paint, and install new island, soft-close cabinets. Install door and drawer pulls. Kitchen Countertops and Tile Backsplash: > Install new quartz countertops Level 3 with standard edge profile and cut out for farm house sink. > Prepare wall surfaces between cabinets for tile backsplash. > Install and grout tile backsplash. Kitchen Plumbing and Appliances Installed: > Install new farm house sink and faucet and connect up plumbing. > Install stove, vent hood, dishwasher, garbage disposal. Kitchen Electrical: > Install 2 pendant lights over bar. Install new switch. > Install 4 new recess LED lights in front of kitchen cabinets. Flooring Installed: > Where flooring was removed prepare concrete surfaces. > Install new Luxury Vinyl Floor in kitchen, eating area, laundry room, living space, foyer, and small hall. > Once flooring is installed, install shoe molding along baseboards. Caulk and fill nail holes. Additions: > Install 24 inch new credenza on cabinet wall. Credenza will have two rows of drawers. > At the end of the island, install new personal desk. > Prime and paint ceiling light over dining table.
