A Garden Apartment occupying the entire ground floor of this impressive Arts & Crafts House. The extensive accommodation has contemporary styling that compliments the period features and benefits from large sunny terraces overlooking the River Dart and out to sea. This character-filled century home bathroom received a complete redesign by removing a closet and moving the toilet to create a larger shower area. Designer Michelle Bortolotto gave the room a fresh, modern feel while maintaining the house’s innate charm. Exposed wooden beams offer structural support with a wonderful rustic touch, drawing the eye to the unique tiled shower. The vanity installed is Waypoint LivingSpaces 650F Cherry Java with a toilet topper cabinet. The countertop, shower curb and shower seat is Eternia Quartz in Edmonton color. A Kohler Fairfax collection in oil rubbed bronze includes the faucet, towel bar, towel holder, toilet paper holder, and grab bars. The toilet is Kohler Cimmarron comfort height in white. In the shower, the floor and partial shower tile is WOW Craft Vintage subway tile and 12x12 Slaty, multi-color tile. On the floor is Slaty 2x2 mosaic multi-color tile.

In the master bathroom we chose to go with the same cabinetry as the kitchen. The vanity is roughly 10 feet long with the double sinks and center hutch. For the floor we went with a large white hexagon and large patterned hexagon that is bordered with a gray linen looking tile.

A previous client (Big Wood Lane) reached out to us to help design a remodel of a recently purchased on the south shore of Lake Minnetonka. The home had grown organically since its original construction in 1945. It had evolved over time to accommodate the needs of its numerous owners. Our client brought a new set of needs to the home that included a desire to make the lake home a comfortable destination for family and friends. The project consisted of reconfiguring an outdated, inefficient kitchen, expansion of the bedroom wing to include individual bathrooms for bedrooms and redesign of the central stair guard rail. The redesign of the kitchen included repositioning major appliances for greater efficiency, more seating at an enlarged island, a new pantry, and expanded views to the lake. The expansion of the bedroom wing included eliminating a three-season porch on top of the garage on the inland side of the home. The space above the garage roof was enclosed and turned into dedicated bathrooms for each bedroom. These bathrooms are accessible only from the bathrooms which provide privacy and convenience to visitors.

By installing a shed dormer we gained significant head clearance as well as square footage to have this beautiful walk in shower added in place of a smaller tub with no clearance.

The rectilinear shape of the room is separated into different functional areas for bathing, grooming and showering. The creative layout of the space is crowned with the seated vanity as the anteroom, and an exit beyond the opening of the shower leads to the laundry and back end of the house. Bold patterned floor tile is a recurring theme throughout the house, a nod to the European practice of giving careful thought to this feature. The central light fixture, flare of the art deco crown molding, centered vanity cabinet and tall windows create a variety of sight lines and an artificial drop to the ceiling that grounds the space. Cove lighting is color changing and tunable to achieve the desired atmosphere and mood.

This homeowner requested an awesome shower and a space that is a reflection of their aesthetic. Our unique approach to the layout, enabled us to create a large walk-in shower with floating bench. Black fixtures and details are a reflection of the homeowners brave aesthetic.
