Here is an architecturally built house from the early 1970's which was brought into the new century during this complete home remodel by adding a garage space, new windows triple pane tilt and turn windows, cedar double front doors, clear cedar siding with clear cedar natural siding accents, clear cedar garage doors, galvanized over sized gutters with chain style downspouts, standing seam metal roof, re-purposed arbor/pergola, professionally landscaped yard, and stained concrete driveway, walkways, and steps.

The exterior of the house was refreshed by removal of all the overgrown trees and shrubs which hide the beauty of this large brick farm house. We replaced all the rotted windows and doore with new modern wood windows and doors finished with custom Boral Millwork. To add some additional sun protection we incorporated a sun trellis over the rear wall of doors. A new Front Entry Porch was designed on the front of the home to create some dimension to the home as well as add sun and rain protection to the front entry of the home. The porch was finished in custom Boral Millwork, custom standing seam metal roof, and beautiful bluestone walkway.

This quintessential Sonoma farmhouse is in a vineyard on a storied 4.5-acre property, with a stone barn that dates back to 1896. The site is less than a mile from the historic central plaza and remains a small working farm with orchards and an olive grove. The new residence is a modern reinterpretation of the farmhouse vernacular, open to its surroundings from all sides. Care was taken to site the house to capture both morning and afternoon light throughout the year and minimize disturbance to the established vineyard. In each room of this single-story home, French doors replace windows, which create breezeways through the house. An extensive wrap-around porch anchors the house to the land and frames views in all directions. Organic material choices further reinforce the connection between the home and its surroundings. A mix of wood clapboard and shingle, seamed metal roofing, and stone wall accents ensure the new structure harmonizes with the late 18th-century structures. Designing this new farmhouse as an ensemble of buildings connected by enclosed and open porches helps with the overall massing and scale of the home.

An in-law suite (on the left) was added to this home to comfortably accommodate the owners extended family. A separate entrance, full kitchen, one bedroom, full bath, and private outdoor patio provides a very comfortable additional living space for an extended stay. An additional bedroom for the main house occupies the second floor of this addition.
