We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. Choosing to abandon uniformity in your kitchen can be a great choice if you're looking to opt out of a monochrome aesthetic. Two-toned kitchen cabinets add visual interest and contrast while drawing focus to different features within the space. Designs utilizing two-toned cabinets have become very popular in recent years and it's not a trend that will be fading out any time soon. Our clients opted for a combination of Earl Grey and Macchiato Classic cabinetry in their two-toned kitchen. The large island with its second faucet, sink, microwave drawer and lower storage is the focal point of the room and a great work surface for food prep and entertaining. A vertical pull out PowerDock was installed into the top of the island for plugging in kitchen tools, phones and laptops. Dolomite Marble subway tile and Brunello quartz countertops brighten up the kitchen and balance out the tone of the cabinets creating a light and airy feel. The addition of contrasting touches such as the Honey Bronze, Flat Black hardware and Champaign Bronze faucets, accessories the room beautifully. The subdued and sophisticated style of this two-toned kitchen is exquisite and shows the various ways that two-tone cabinets can be versatile and appealing. Some of the other areas that were remodeled in this home included the complete overhaul of the existing stair well, a guest bath and laundry area. The guest bath has beautiful vanity cabinets in Celest finish, Monochrome Lotus Deco tile and very reflective Midnight Dots in the shower floor and niche. The combination of all three give a striking white, blue and black design that will inspire and show that you can use pattern and texture in small spaces. A twenty four inch wall mounted shower seat can be lifted and secured when in use and tucked away to allow access out of the shower. A pocket door from the guest bathroom provides a second access point to the hallway with the laundry that has also been revamped with the same style and finish of cabinetry.

This complete home renovation was done in 2 month in Valencia California. In this project we opened up the kitchen wall after we made architectural and engineering plans. We came up with a 3D design and we helped the homeowners to pick the cabinets, countertop and all the rest. We upgraded the plumbing and the electrical to code and we did the same thing in the master bathroom. We also remodeled the guest bathroom, we installed new hardwood floors throughout, re-stained the floors, replaced all the interior doors and main door, painted the entire floors, wall and ceiling.

Alternate view of the kitchen from the lounge. Kitchen cabinets are custom made, shaker inset doors and shaker 5 piece inset drawers. General cabinets are finished in Sherwin Williams "Downy", while the refrigerator, freezer and hood are finished in Sherwin Williams "Jogging Path." Glass in the upper cabinets are a mixture of Narrow Reed and Thin Chord. The kitchen cabinets on the perimeter are capped with Pental Quartz in "Sage," the quartz also serves as a backsplash flush up to the window sill on the sink wall. Kitchen sink is a 36" Kohler Whitehaven Apron Front with Brizo Litze Pull Down with Angled Spout and Knurled Handle in stainless steel. Island cabinets are finished in Sherwin Williams "Hardware" and finished with a decorative butcher block top made from maple, hickory and walnut and finished with clear stain. Matching paneled Thermador refrigerator and freezer sit on either side of the 36" Thermador gas range and hood insert. Backsplash on the range wall is Sonoma Tilemakers 3"x9" Montage in "Cinnabar Glossy," grout is Ardex in "Organic Earth." Floors in the kitchen and lounge are custom 7" Hickory planks with a natural finish.
