This remodel of a three-story San Francisco Victorian honors the timeless design while breathing fresh, modern life into the home. The clients’ new favorite room - the kitchen - is now bathed in light due to a skylight and floor-to-ceiling bi-folding steel framed doors. Beautiful custom wood cabinets and wood details add warmth, gorgeous tiles insert rich color and personality while the handcrafted concrete counters and sink bring a modern and functional touch. A new a arch opening into the kitchen matches the original casing detail – a way to pay homage to what was.

Although the home is in its 100th year, the owners wanted to create an updated urban style reflective of their downtown location. The new styling, while sleek and contemporary, kept a traditional feel with a paneled door styling, crystal chandeliers and an updated glass version of subway tile. A residence designed for informal gathering and relaxation on a quiet cove near Acadia National Park. Conceived of as a compound of connected gathering spaces with adjacent private retreat spaces. The "village" of structures is designed to open and close seasonally with large sliding barn doors. These also modulate light, air and views into and out of the cottages. Carefully positioned to take advantage of the rich variety of views and sloping topography, the cottages have integral terraces and retaining walls to negotiate the undulating land-form. One arrives at the high point of the site and the long barn axis and navigates between the cottages to the main entrance. Once inside, the home deliberately reveals unique views to the ocean, mountains and surrounding spruce forest.

Situated in Nacka´s historic Saltsjökvarn building, this 124 square metre apartment boasts impressive water views towards Djurgården as well as the industrial charm of the old grain mill. While demolishing the existing kitchen, our priority was to ensure the new design complemented the architectural framework as well as embracing our client´s colourful vision for their home. That our clients were open to all of the possibilities bespoke kitchen design has to offer, was an extraordinary bonus in terms of what we could explore through materiality and texture. The fully integrated kitchen, with hidden appliances and maximised storage, allows the space to function both practically on a daily basis as well as seamlessly when entertaining. Defining the kitchen, the bespoke brushed brass cabinetry reveals the warm beauty of the material while a clear lacquer finish protects it in a high-use area. The tactile variations in the brushed brass, stone, timber, textured glass, matte metal detailing and vivid teal paint colour each deliver a subtle richness to the whole. The result is a kitchen imbued with character and personality that evokes a sense of joy and playfulness with a sophisticated, industrial edge.
