When a young professional couple approached us to decorate the main floor of their brand new modern townhouse in Port Coquitlam, we were very excited. Having moved from a Gastown condo, the couple was eager to infuse this suburban location with a funky yet sophisticated downtown vibe. They were also looking for a neutral backdrop with some hits of colour and asked us to incorporate wallpaper. The statement artwork that we selected above the fireplace set the tone for this project. We started with a pair of sleek neutral leather sofas to maximize seating in the small living space and layered them with a variety of toss pillows in blues, teals & turquoise then added a few pops of orange. We defined the front entrance and dining area with a stunning marbleized grey and white wallpaper by Graham and Brown. The dark wood furniture in the dining area adds contrast and sophistication balancing the dark stained kitchen cabinets opposite. The resulting look is clean, modern and playful. Our Clients loved their home, their backyard and their neighborhood, but wanted a new feel to their 1960’s Colonial. So they asked us to give it a complete internal “facelift.” Now, elegant mahogany doors set the tone for the graceful Entrance Hall; the stunning renovated Kitchen is open to the Family Room; the expanded “back of the house” area between the Garage and Kitchen accommodates Laundry and Mud Rooms, a Walk-in Pantry, and Pool Shower Room and Closet. On the second floor, the Kids’ Bedrooms and Bathrooms are updated with new fixtures and finishes; and the reconfigured Master Suite fashions a sun-filled Master Bedroom with vaulted ceiling, a large Dressing Room, and beautiful Bathroom. To our Clients’ delight, the internal “facelift” was a genuine transformation, and gave their home a fresh, new beginning.

With three active children, this family required a space that was as functional as it was beautiful, not forgetting the importance of it feeling inviting. The resulting home references the classic Queenslander in combination with a refined mix of modern Hampton elements.

The remodelling of a ground floor garden flat in northwest London offers the opportunity to revisit the principles of compact living applied in previous designs. The 54 sqm flat in Willesden Green is dramatically transformed by re-orientating the floor plan towards the open space at the back of the plot. Home office and bedroom are relocated to the front of the property, living accommodations at the back. The rooms within the outrigger have been opened up and the former extension rebuilt with a higher flat roof, punctured by an elongated light well. The corner glazing directs one’s view towards the sleek limestone garden. A storage wall with an homogeneous design not only serves multiple functions - from wardrobe to linen cupboard, utility and kitchen -, it also acts as the agent connecting the front and the back of the apartment. This device also serves to accentuate the stretched floor plan and to give a strong sense of direction to the project. The combination of bold colours and strong materials result in an interior space with modernist influences yet sombre and elegant and where the statuario marble fireplace becomes an opulent centrepiece with a minimal design.
