The dramatic ceiling height was achieved by opening up the ceiling, this was the former dining room at the back of the house. By "flipping" the location of the kitchen we created a great room conducive to entertaining and family living.

This is a very large kitchen with lots of storage. The tops of the cabinets are 12' tall and there is hidden storage for the library ladder used to reach the upper cabinets. LED strip lighting was used for the under cabinet lights as well as uplights at the tops of the cabinets and inside the display cabinets. The island is movable and there are custom "carts" that when stored looks like a cabinet.

This charming one-story 1950s ranch was fully remodeled and taken straight to the present day. Located in a beautiful Hinsdale neighborhood, The Lane was a full remodel and collaboration between owner, contractor, and HaylieRead Design. The design aesthetic pulls in cool blues with polished lines, paired with accent metals and warm woods throughout. This combination created an approachable and contemporary space.

This 1998 Marysville rambler, full of amazing potential, had a serious case of the “Builder Basic Blues” and was in need of a revamp. The original floorplan included a series of walls that both encased the kitchen and chopped up the main living area. By removing the walls and relocating the kitchen a significant impact was made on the function and aesthetics of the home. Now instead of separated rooms, the open concept allows for a wonderful flow and maximizes the entire space. Design solutions included exchanging the orange-hued oak cabinets for the quintessential classic white shaker style cabinetry with multiple storage solutions and the lux touch of ice blue picket glass mosaic tile backsplash. The butler’s pantry which is built into the wall across from the kitchen provides a plethora of storage options. Glass doors for display and a combination of stationary shelves and pull out drawers make this beautiful cabinet space a boon for storing anything from china plates and tablecloths to cereal boxes and paper towels. Gorgeous long board luxury vinyl plank flooring is carried throughout and into the master bathroom that received a spectacular makeover including a custom vanity, large linen cabinet and glass enclosed walk-in shower with distinct 12×24 grey porcelain tile. While open-concept kitchens seem to be all the rage, these days. This kitchen proves that you can have a U-shaped kitchen that is also modern, functional, and beautiful. This kitchen doesn’t have a large footprint, but the combination of material choice and use of space help make it a great place to cook and entertain in. The cabinets are a white painted shaker, classic and clean, and while the maple elements on the island and window frames and the blue tile add some interest without overwhelming the space. The white built-out range hood and maple open shelving also help to make the upper level of cabinets seem light and easy on the eyes. The large maple-wrapped beam separating the kitchen from the living room perfectly ties the kitchen into the rest of the living space. Some of the functional elements that help bring this space together are the cabinet accessories and the island with built-in storage. One of the issues with U-shaped kitchens is that the layout often creates two blind corner base cabinets which usually become black pits for kitchen items to get lost in. By installing a magic corner in one and a lazy susan in the other, we were able to maximize this kitchen’s functionality. Other features, like a built-in trash pullout and integrate LED lights throughout, help make this kitchen the perfect blend of form and function.
