The homeowners of this beautiful McLean residence were interested in a kitchen renovation that would combine their love of contemporary design with a user-friendly “cook’s kitchen.” Also included in the remodeling project was an update to the powder room adjacent to the kitchen.

One of the biggest hurdles that BOWA , the design build remodeler, faced was minimizing the disruption to the homeowners. By accessing through the garage as well as implementing a negative pressure system, dust was kept at a minimum throughout the rest of the home. Additionally, the BOWA project team suggested setting up a temporary kitchen in the basement including a dishwasher, range, refrigerator and freezer. The idea was embraced by the family, and they were pleased that it allowed them to continue a fairly normal existence during the renovation.

The homeowners, based on a negative experience with a previous contractor, were very worried about both schedule and the possibility for change orders. They were thrilled with BOWA’s adherence to schedule and the open-book, line-item budget.

The kitchen features Poggenpohl cabinets in both Light Grey and Titan Grey, Black Galaxy granite around the perimeter and a magnificent slab of Astrick granite on the island. The appliance package includes Sub-Zero refrigerator, freezer and beverage center; Viking gas range, convection ovens and warming drawer; Miele dishwasher and Dorsa range hood by Cheng Design. Special care was taken in the design of the appliance garage to allow easy access to the myriad of small devices the homeowner uses on a daily basis. Fully automated, the space even features a state-of-the-art, remote controlled privacy shade.

The result is a spectacular kitchen remodel highlighted by clean lines and exquisite finishes. The homeowners, including one avid cook and one enthusiastic taster, are thrilled with both the aesthetic as well as the functionality of their new space.
