Back Porch Renovation in Great Falls, VA
Thrilled with the results of their recent lower-level remodeling project, the homeowners once again turned to BOWA to discuss options for a new screened-porch addition. They wished to transform the existing deck and gazebo into an indoor/outdoor space while unifying the appearance of the back of the home. As the remodeling contractor, we worked closely with the clients to refine their existing plans and create spaces perfectly suited to their lifestyle.
One of the homeowner’s “must haves” for the porch addition was a stone fireplace. The new double-sided stone fireplace can be used from the outside screened porch or inside in the existing family room. Egress to the home is provided by glass doors on either side of the fireplace which provide abundant natural light. The spacious porch is enhanced by soaring beadboard ceilings, and beautiful custom moldings are carried from the interior to the exterior spaces.
From the screened-in area, the family has easy access onto the new, adjoining covered porch featuring a graceful staircase down to the rear yard. The stairs are flanked by two areas perfect for al fresco dining, entertaining or simply watching the kids play. The spaces are accentuated by beadboard ceilings, custom lighting and beautiful fans to provide comfort during the hottest days.
A smaller, existing deck off the living room on the left side of the home was integrated into the new design and provides balance and interest. The metal roof on the screened porch addition is incorporated throughout the design and unifies the various spaces. A round window set high up on the gable along with a hint of metal roof provides an architectural statement. In addition, all the windows in the home were replaced for an updated look as well as improved energy efficiency.
From the screened porch, perfect for enjoying a fire and casual meal, to the expansive back deck the homeowners couldn’t be happier with their dramatic new backyard spaces.
